Not to make you feel bad but that happened to me at least 5 times on the job search. It’s unfortunately now part of the job search process. Everyone thinks their time is more important than proving a simple copy and paste rejection email. Keep your head up and don’t get discouraged yet!
Thank you for the kind words! At least I know it’s not just me out there. Appreciate it
happening to me right now - internal recruiter contacted me the evening right after my interview to say how much everyone liked me and to stay tuned , then emailed the next day for my availability for a second in person interview. Then no response for days. Emailed yesterday to check in and was told she would be confirm the time shortly that day. Then crickets again for 24 hours. wtf
An observation from an industry fossil: I don’t remember hearing about this kind of thing at all 10-20 years ago, and not just bc the term “ghosting” wasn’t a thing yet. Agencies didn’t make decisions any faster, but recruiters at least maintained contact. I only ran into it in the last few years. At first I thought it was just my age (45 which is 135 in ad years) but it seems to be a new standard practice .
True. I remember when recruiters weren’t just professional but truly personable, and would contribute building agency reputation through relationship with candidates, or people just interested in the place. You’d still get rejections of course, but at least you knew where you’d stand and were treated respectfully. Now i’ve lost count of all the ghosting i’ve experienced, in all kinds of ways and at any stage of the process. Sometimes i skip a place altogether on openings i’m totally qualified for and seemingly a good fit because past experience with the recruiter has turned out to be just a big black hole. Wondering to what extent agencies are losing talent around because of that, and if they even care.
Fuck em
I had a 3.5 hour interview with ~7 people at chartbeat. Sent everyone a personalized thank you note, completed an assessment and got an email that I’d be meeting with the CEO for the final stage of the interviewing process. Never heard back. Followed up 6 times. Absolutely disgusted
Having the same experience. In one instance, I prepped many hours to give a creative presentation. They promised a decision or notice in one week. That was 2 weeks ago. Not a word Not ok.
So not ok. Have some respect, people! Good luck out there
Sometimes, just soooommmeeetimes, stuff happens. I was going on week three of being ghosted between my phone and first in-person interview when the EVP interviewing me went on a weekend ski trip and f*cked himself up. Was laid up in the hospital for a week before he could even fly home. Sometimes things do happen...
But where were you when this “accident” happened ?
Worst offender in my experience has been Walmart. I've interviewed for three or four different roles over five to seven years, made it to second or third round, then silence. A few others too but none with frequency.
Across the US overall headcount at agencies is shrinking. And the number of applicants is the same or more. We are workers in a right to work industry. A white collar proletariat.
