It’s why I left bedside. I wished we had a phlebotomist—we did our own lab draws on patients in addition to work as HUC, Tech and RN Duties. I was also a charge RN in count on an airway floor—-I respected our RTs because they would have so many patients in their assignment all over the hospital. We were so understaffed…if we had a sitter case, I would relieve the Tech for their breaks and lunch. Each nurse on my floor got between 2-4 admissions a night. Hospitals need to do something about the shortage. It’s not fair for anyone at any level. I am sure there are some entitled RNs, but please see the bigger problem is administration and their priority to make money than provide adequate staffing. It stresses everyone out.
I literally said that above in comments they literally under staff n under pay just to make profit while we suffer because they know we will simple like whyyyyyy
I hear ya. We are all being overworked. No need for attitude though. If they can't be professional they don't belong in the medical field.
Dude I know
I am right there with you. There is a shortage everywhere and we are all overworked and underpaid. I am tired and I think we all are really.
Stop complaining about other jobs. Before I was a nurse I use to do over 100 draws a day by myself, I could easily do 35 draws in an hour. Everyone wants to complain about nurses when we literally do everyone’s job in the hospital, we do our own labs when lazy phlebotomists can’t come, we have to cover CNAs, mix or grab our own medication when there’s no pharm techs, administer respiratory meds when respiratory isn’t available. Every job in the hospital is replaceable with a nurse, the only reason why phlebotomists are even a job is because nursing created it to give us more time to focus on more important things… like keeping people alive.
I’m also tired of nurses not realizing that we are also understaffed at the hospital I work at as well. We don’t have many techs and the pharmacists are doing the best they can to keep up with everything. They don’t realize we are dealing with the WHOLE hospital not just their department. They send in medication requests last minute, they wait until their IV bags are close to being empty to request a new one and then blame us when it’s not there when they want it(we have to mix it, so it takes time because like I said, they aren’t the only floor we tend to.) Yet they still complain about us, when I see some of them sit around watching movies on their phones, I cringe because I barely have any time to even look at a text. And they complain about us? Lol rant over. Just So tired of these entitled nurses
I’m an ER nurse. The only time I’m yelling at someone is when someone is dying in front of me and I’m trying to save a life. If people are going to take that personally then honestly I don’t know what to tell you.
You’re appreciated!
I have never hear about been a travel phlebotomist If you don’t mind con you give me some info please
If you keep doing it you’ll never get some help. Safety first and let them wait or ask management that they may need to hire another person to keep up the work load.
No need to over work yourself. It’s not worth it.
I worked as an EKG technician many years ago and asked our supervisor for a pager as we had some nurses and I remember a cardiologist complaining. I wanted a better record of the calls since we did them right away uless we were with another patient. We had one cardiologist one night and I told him that the 2 of us were already doing EKGs on his patients. He had ordered EKGs on second shift. Another time we had a patient that I had the nurses come into the room as he was unresponsive and I told them he was going to code. They had me speak to the cardiologist who refused to come in. The patient coded twice that day.
