Here’s what’s getting lost in people’s understanding of vaccine protection: Covid is a physical thing (a virus, a little blob of DNA). No drug can form a force field that prevents a *physical* thing from coming into contact with you.

Even if you’re vaccinated, you can breathe in the physical covid particles, and when they enter your lungs, they will start going to work on the tissue there. The vaccine cannot stop this.

What the vaccine DOES do is help your body attack the virus. It prevents the infection from spreading faster than your body can fight. This is why people say, “Thee vaccine prevents severe infection”— the “severe” is key. Because the vaccine cannot stop you from getting infected; it cannot shield you from contact with the physical world.

So even once you’re vaccinated, you gotta remember that you’re not inside a force field, you can get infected. Please take care, fishes!

Yes

Vaccines are not 100% but they significantly reduce your chances of getting it and when you do get it; your symptoms will be significantly muted or be asymptomatic. As a person who has asthma and got the harsher delta 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐃 variant early on before the vaccines, I can tell you that the symptoms were really bad but I was not hospitalized. People who got vaccinated and got this version have such a mild version compared to what I and others went through - sounds like just a cold.

Catching this milder variant might be blessing in disguise to get to heard immunity faster. Don’t spend time being angry; rest up and focus on new baby coming. That will make you tired!

"Significantly reduce" ? We are near a million daily cases and that is just the people that bother to get tested. There is only 300 million people in the country. How do you still believe that nonsense? Serious question.

Unfortunately breakthrough cases do happen. The upside is that you (and your loved ones) will likely not experience any serious symptoms given you’re vaccinated. This isn’t a case of “big pharma lying,” it’s a case of vaccines not being 100% effective (which we knew)

Sending best wishes to you and your family

likehelpfulfunnysmart

Those that are saying breakthrough CAN happen, think again- family of 4 adults all triple vaxed, developed symptoms within 24 hours of coming in contact with an unknown carrier and tested positive on the second day after the symptoms first surfaced. Symptoms are limited to mild cough, severe headache and chills. What questions can I answer for you?

Hope everything is okay with you and your family.
Don’t let these people tell you that it was always the case that it was known and broadcasted that the vaccines didn’t stop the spread. They REPEATEDLY said that if you take two shots you will not get covid and there are countless videos of Biden, gates, Fauci and the head of the CDC saying so.
This is clearly not the case now and in fact this is more of a therapeutic and not actually a vaccine.
If you took three smallpox vaccines in one year and got smallpox you would be v. Upset don’t let these people gaslight you saying this has always been the case and that’s just how vaccines work they are either being wilfully ignorant or just lying because they are addicted to the covid narrative and it gives their lives purpose.
Luckily it seems as though omicron is not as deadly although more transmissible I have a good amount of South African colleagues who tell me the symptoms are not bad the ones who got it and also that no one is freaking out over there so hopefully your family and you will be all good.

Here are some more lies that have now been admitted by your favourite branch covidian leaders:

1. Cloth masks are ineffective against omicron (Leanna Wen, CNN);
2. The vaccinated can spread and get covid;
3. The death rate is comparable to the flu (Chris Hayes);
4. Many people are entering hospitals with covid, not from covid (Fauci);
5. Natural immunity is a reason omicron hasn't been as virulent (Fauci);
6. We have to take into account societal needs, not just spread prevention (CDC);
7. The asymptomatic should not be tested (NFL);
8. We should focus on hospitalizations and deaths, not case rate (Biden);
9. Children are not at risk and schools should remain open;
10. Covid is predominantly an illness affecting the immunocompromised and elderly and we should not shut down society.

Those of us in reality have been saying all this for months and most of it since May 2020. But your political priors were more important than the data. You had to have your demonization narrative.
Your hero’s are not as afraid of covid as they want you to be while they want you locked up they’re eating out maskless and visiting Florida for holiday where there are less restrictions.
Sorry but you’ve been had and the more it becomes evident how wrong they were, the more they insist that you are the problem.

Damn ppl really don’t realize the flu shot we take every year is like 30-50% effective and no vaccine is 100% effective. bIG pHaRMa iS LyINg to mE. Nah you just need to educate yourself

I'm sorry to here what you're family is going through.

Personally I would be mad with your government and policy makers. It was their responsibility to analyze the science with the best outcomes of the public in mind and communicate to the public.

In reality touting improved booster efficacy is based on large scale Israeli studies that were done on Delta. The evidence seems to suggest Omicron is far more vaccine resistant and we don't know if booster will help much. The transmission of Omicron is also quite a bit more intense. It is suggested to move from cloth masks to propose N95 masks now.

Big pharma has it fiduciary priorities clear but it feels like policy makers are far less transparent about theirs.

Working in government made me realize that you can’t put your faith in the government

likesmart

As MD1 said, the vaccines are largely a therapeutic. Cloth masks have not proven effective in study after study, and surgery masks have exhibited little to no efficacy. Best bet is N95 masks, but definitely no guarantee.

like

The efficacy was certainly the case with previous strains but even on Delta efficacy dropped substantially to be around a more traditional vaccine

I mean you also explicitly stated what the issue might be - running outside without a mask? Just telling you how it is. Im not tryna sound high and mighty cause Im fully vaxxed but don’t wear masks unless indoors.

BDO 1 don’t you know the virus chases you? It sees a person and chases it down.

The chance of you catching Covid outdoors on a run is negligible lol

Cloth masks have been showing limited efficacy for omicron. Might be a contributing factor

You are not being lied to by big pharma. You are being screwed by the willingly unvaxxed. You can blame every single person who has chosen not to get vaccinated (those with medical exemptions - not religious exceptions, which are pure bullshit - aside), for holding our entire society hostage and creating a petri dish for the virus to continue to mutate. The CDC, and doctors and biologists more broadly, have been talking about the possibility of continuing mutation of the virus unless we get herd immunity - since the beginning. It’s time to start shunning the willingly unvaccinated for holding our entire society hostage. Hope you and your family recover fully.

They (pharma, cdc, Biden, Fauci) that it was 2 shots and your good to go, protected and can take the mask off, hell Rachel Maddow has a entire episode on this that the 2 shots will end this. Now it’s multiple shots a year for life

I don’t get it - do people not get that vaccines aren’t 100% effective? Did they not read?

SA2, can you share a source on that?

Did anyone actually believe that vaccination was preventive?

Do you actually not believe the vaccine is preventative? Try giving it to someone on a ventilator and lmk how the treatment goes

I have the same questions

likesmart

Why did you ever believe them in the first place? I’m vaxxed but it was clear it was temporary protection which is why I thought it was asinine that everyone was somehow comparing the covid vaccines to previous one and done vaccines. Good news is that it’s much less likely to require hospitalization.

like

You have to remember that the vaccine isn’t giving you immunity to just run around town without masks. It reduces your likelihood of getting severe illness. She you shouldn’t be that surprised after three shots. You might have been lying to yourself if you thought you couldn’t get covid again - literally no one, including the vaccines manufacturers said that (that’s why the vaccine doesn’t have 100% effectiveness). Hope you didn’t pass it to your loved ones but it’s a cautionary tail to play it safe when a new variant is spreading around and your wife has an underlying health condition.

likefunny

Introducing the vaccine to your system is like a parachute - it’s going to lighten the impact of the fall but you’ll still get some effect.

like

Same thing has happened to me - I’d very been careful and have worn N95s everywhere this whole week, large sheltered at home to prep for my family’s arrival, etc, but am positive now and likely have passed it to my father and sister.

At least the vaccines and boosters will keep us healthier than the alternative - vaccines were never meant to be 100% foolproof (especially with Omicron) but they’re still very effective against severe outcomes, so I’m trying to find comfort in that.

Keeping all of us in my thoughts 🤞🏼 really hoping your wife makes it out of the hospital soon.
