TikTok to Google anyone made the switch before in sales/partnership? I like the challenge of working for the underdog, but there’s tons of things that can be improved too which a mature company would have e.g more established internal processes, clear ways of working etc. seeking advice from anyone who made the move, cheers!
I would expect (and recommend) a lateral move in terms of title. Come over, prove yourself, get some experience with different processes/software/teams before you try to move up a level. If they offer a level up, it’s ok, just don’t overstate your experience. It becomes apparent quickly when someone isn’t honest in interviews.

Most likely they won’t bring you in as senior, they don’t value smaller firm experience as much. Middle market firms would consider though.
You have three years of experience but have no experience on reviewing return? What’s your day to day like? Any project management experience or supervising role?
No, we are a small firm and have a lot of managers.
Big 4 tax needs people, so it's a good time for you to take advantage and get in big 4. I did it 5 years ago, and I enjoyed it. However, be careful that it's possible they put you in investment management group, which is doing partnership tax for PE, Hedge fund. This should be your last priority as this work is not promising and exit opportunity is limited. Try to do tax provision for hotel clients in florida, try to do high net worth individuals and other private clients like operating partnerships. Or if you can get into international tax or tax tech , even better. Joining as TCII is a not a bad idea, which give you more time to adjust and you are more flexible to choose what you want. However, joining as TCII in PE group should be a redflag
Thank you very much TM! I’ll try to do that!
So much truth from Partner 2. It’s probably 9-1 from folks that come over and immediately succeed. Those that do work their butts off.
I don’t see a big difference from staff 2 and senior 1, but coming from a small firm, you’re going to need to learn both more technical skills and a stupid amount of “corporate” skills, ie. billing, contracts, scheduling, etc and all the oh-so user friendly softwares that go along with that.
Best bet is to come in as a staff. I came in as a staff with a similar background as yourself and trust me, you would prefer coming in as a staff. The work culture is VERY different and it’ll be an adjustment
So helpful thank you!!
What type of work have you done? What group are you applying to? 3 years of experience doesn’t say much into what kind of fit you are with that group
