I’m turning 40 next year as well and have a trip planned with family. I personally appreciate the decade milestones and travel is a great way to remember the occasion.

like

And don’t take the work phone, throw it in a lake or something 😉

like

A memorable trip with some good pictures to remember it by. As I have matured with age I have noticed I value experiences more than throwing a party. The memories of the milestone with a celebratory experience with family or friends beats anything in my opinion.

Went to Maui, had two friends join me. Very low key, and it was just what I needed.

Yeah, originally I was thinking a big party. But now I’m thinking more and more of a trip

Mediterranean cruise! I spent my 40th in Rome!

I took my SO (who turned 40 last year) to NOLA for jazz and photography, and then had a surprise party of about 10-12 people at a restaurant ready for him when we returned. It was nice and I think he really felt celebrated.

Nothing really special. Another decade to look forward to, hopefully.

I went to Key West, FL. 🎉🎉🎉

Spa day, brewery tour / whiskey tasting, and Foo Fighters concert with my BFF since 7th grade.

Went to work and was glad no one knew.

Went to Europe for three weeks with the guys

The wife went to Paris with the girls when she turned 50 so it all works out

like

Had a bunch of friends and family over for a catered dinner and lots of drinks.

Trip with about 20 friends to not too far state with group dinner and other itinerary

My wife throw a surprise party for me. There were over 40 people when I got home, with a whisky bar, cigar bar, food bar and dessert bar. She organized it so well. She has reached out to my old friends from high school, college and people I had lost touch with, they all sent a video with awesome memories and wishes! It is something I’ll always remember! She made it really really special for me. I just hope I can come close when she turns 40 🤷🏻‍♂️!

Rented a villa in Tuscany for a week and invited 10 friends to join us. We took day trips, had a cooking class at the villa, shopped, drank lots of wine and when the clock struck midnight we all jumped into the freezing pool. It was an awesome experience.

I want to brag on my kid, but I don’t want to embarrass him, so I’m doing it here. My college sophomore found out today that he ended up with a B in his accounting class - which is remarkable, given that he received a 50 on his first exam and a 70 on his second. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him work this hard - and I couldn’t be more proud. The grades that come easily don’t impress me nearly as much as the ones that are hard fought.

How much do you have in emergency fund? I’m not talking total assets / fund. But liquid (like cash). I recall the magic number was 8 months but that seems to be a lot just sitting around in a savings account getting 0.5 interest

Seriously thinking of taking a 6 mo sabbatical and getting away from it all for a while next year. Potentially travel around the world in Q3 / Q4 presuming the pandemic situation has improved. Single and kids are in college so no day to day family responsibilities. Anyone done something similar? Would love to hear your experiences. I know it will set me back from making Partner by at least 1 year but who cares? I feel like it will be a life changing experience (traveling around the world part).
