I’ve had those days, and they’re crushing. What got me through it (after some tears) was “how many projects have I done, yes they’ve been successful, I can get through this just like every other time, and be a excellent performer just like every other time”. Things will come up, that’s for sure, just have the confidence to rebound and be the high performer you are! 🙌🏻
Thanks EY 1! The rebound is the key.
One lesson I’ve learnt is to own it.
Thanks SC1. Absolutely! I think that’s the only way the lesson is truly learned not to repeat the same mistake. Thanks 😊
Okay, you dropped the ball. Wake up and pick it up tomorrow. Everyone needs time to reset. Don't worry about what everyone is thinking. Just resolve to do better and try a different approach. Also, come clean with your team. You'll be respected for it!
I’m usually a high achiever and pride myself on stakeholder management. I’ve dropped the ball and it showed today. What’s worse is that I feel like the other people on the (small) team think I’m stupid or can’t do my job. I rarely experience these moments of “I fucked up” or “failure” and my ego is taking a hit.
Anyone else ever go through this?
I’m not trying to be whiny, just needed an outlet. Sorry ladies!
The other lesson I learnt - is not to sweat the small stuff, life happens- go get some Ben and Jerry’s- always works for me
You’re human! Like SC1 said, dust yourself off tomorrow. But also in my experience if you’re normally a high achiever, when you feel like you’re “failing”, there’s a good chance others haven’t noticed. When I came back from maternity leave, everyone asked me if I wanted to come back part time. It made me super insecure like they thought I wouldn’t be able to do full time anymore. I did full time anyway and constantly felt like I was dropping the ball. A few months in, i broke down and asked my partner if he thought it was working and maybe should I be part time or go internal or something. He looked at me like where is this coming from? He had no idea I felt that way and hadn’t seen any decline in performance (the reality was somewhere in between). You’re probably picking up on some things but remember you’re your own worst critic
Thanks M1. It was definitely noticed, but I could feel it was coming. I’m quite self-aware but sometimes I just don’t trust my instincts. Definitely a lesson learned and room for improvement. Like you said, need to dust it off and keep moving.
Thank you!
