1) Focus on your depression and mental health issues, get the proper help 2) if you are up for promotion, stick it out for another year while being underpaid and look for new jobs after getting promoted. Pay will be even better then 3) Be patient most importantly. Nothing is ever the end of the world

Don’t fucking stick it out. Sorry. It sounds like these thoughts about how underpaid and undervalued you are really hurt you and may be making you more depressed. Don’t job hunt—send your resume to a recruiter and make him/her do the work. You just need to go through the motions. But also: get a light box. Get outside (hard, yes, but worth it)—just take yourself for a walk for a coffee or something. Exercise (put the clothes out. Sign up for a class or meet a friend. Put a YouTube video on if you can’t do anything else. This really helps!). Try come CBT podcasts. Tell yourself: “just do it for 15 minutes, then you can stop.”—I have suffered with depression and anxiety for over a decade and that phrase has helped me remain functional. Good luck, take care, and feel free to reach out.

I work in a field that has suddenly exploded with regulations and changes and is short practitioners, so if that’s the case...they find you. Otherwise, follow them (they post a lot and are often recommended or whatever) and reach out on their posts—they will mention jobs or you can just mention it cold; they and their teams are always looking. Some agencies specialize (e.g. finance focus) so see if you can find one that’s particular to your field (perhaps Google first). Good luck!

This is the absolute perfect window for you to invest in exploring options with other companies, which focusing on self-care, as per D1s great suggestions. And also as recommended, let a recruiter or 2 - and your LinkedIn status (change to open to new opps) - do the heavy lifting. Don’t stress yourself, since there’s no pressure or risk, just try to have fun with it, including the interviews, and ask for more money than you feel comfortable with to see how far you can get. You have a good safety net in place, and by the time your promotion discussion occurs, you will have not only a clear sense of your market worth but probably have generated a job offer or 2 that they would need to match to keep you (if you find you do want to stay). Your timing on this is great, given your current assignment, and pending review/promotion. Pat yourself on the back for being a strong performer and have fun proving to yourself and your current company that it’s time to pay you what the market offers.

Been underpaid for years, came in low at 55.5k as a campus hire associate. I’ve communicated each year, more so the past two (being more direct vs PC) with two years ago receiving a small extra increase and this last year pushing for a market adjustment which I did not get but got a decent % raise (but doesn’t help close the gap if you are underpaid already). I’ve closed the gap from 30 to 17 across the past four years, but I can’t help but fixate on the fact that I’ve lost so much money the past four years and will continue to lose more money, despite being ranked at the top of my performance ranking consistently and all fantastic feedback. And then this itself adds to more paranoia and rejection sensitivity. I know if I’m not happy with my pay, I just need to leave. But my depression has just recently really escalated the past 6 months (this being one of many fuelers that have built up over time). I’m in a situation now where I can work from home doing work I like and not stressful for at least a month or two, which will be the best option for me to work while focusing more on my mental health. Additionally, I’m top pick for promotion next year to manager (though will continue to be underpaid to my peers who came in with higher salaries). It’s not in the cards right now for me to look for a new job and bring on new job stressors, but I’m just being torn apart feeling like I’m being taken advantage of in pay. Tips on how to find peace and let the last go and be okay with taking my time to get to where I need to be?

For me, focusing on my self-care and making sure my self-esteem and body were healthy helped me get the energy and confidence to continue applying and not feel worn down by rejections from job offers. I did everything I could to make sure I was doing what I wanted which allowed me to have a sense of control and, in essence, confidence and contentment. Not sure if you are suffering from low self-esteem (you said you had rejection sensitivity), but if you are, self-care and a sense of control (“every decision I make is a choice”) will help.

Last night, I came to a realization. We are not trying to attract top talent because this job never needed top talent. We just need bodies. Now, we aren’t even trying to attract those anymore. It’s time to accept that I’ll never make partner. I’ll never have adequate staff. I’ll never make enough money to own new cars or take my family to Disney world annually. I’ll always have 6 months per year of 80 hour weeks. This is life. I work this hard so my family can have health insurance.

I work as a clinical care manager (LCSW) with an insurance company. Wondering if there is a better way of finding out salary information for other companies out there that have similar positions? I do feel that I am compensated fairly but lower than what I initially expected based on what I saw on glassdoor. I was told it’s because it’s based on cost of living where I am residing (not sure if that was legit or just an excuse).

Interesting statistic I just saw: Today 50% of women aged 30 do not currently have children. This is the highest it’s been since they began keeping records of it. 🤯

Haven’t decided whether I want to get the vaccine yet (skip over this if you’re going to comment with judgment), but every work call/happy hour lately involves people discussing their vaccine status. Any thoughts on responses for when I’m asked about mine?
