I'm wanting to advance to a lead/supervisor position but I keep being turned down because I don't have enough supervisory experience. I have 5+ years in medical coding, 3 in medical records and 10 in accounting. I've mostly worked in smaller facilities where I've taken on numerous roles under one title. How am I supposed to gain supervisory experience if no one will give me a chance?

I think it’s hard to move up on the admin side of a hospital. There’s far less leadership positions to go around especially at a smaller facility and when one does come available, there’s always someone with more seniority or the “not what you know, it’s who you know” scenario. I had to leave my admin role because of it. Try larger companies maybe that are just strictly medical billing or a large healthcare system.

The facility i work at now is much bigger than ones Ive worked at in the past. I'm still seeing the problem of others having seniority (therefore more experience) in a more specialized area whereas my experience is broader.

Have you notified your current sup of your management goals? Ask for more responsibility that may prepare you appropriately. When you are turned down, have a convo with the hiring manager. Ask for constructive criticism.

Hello, I fully understand your frustration. Unfortunately, you should consider other companies that will give you an opportunity. My company while a bigger one still has a hard time promoting from within. The positions are always less or someone has seniority. Good luck

Being promoted from within is sometimes harder because your employment at the organization is one long job interview. The employer sees your strengths and weaknesses as they arise. 1. Make sure you are reading plenty of leadership books and look for opportunities to put that info to work. 2. Consider a job somewhere you can start with a clean slate. 3. Develop mental toughness. How you are responding to difficult situations shows a lot about your character. Read the book “Grit” by Angela Duckworth.

I know this topic has come up before but am asking a slightly different question. We have always talked about 3 kids. I discovered I was pregnant with kid 2 the week my city went into lockdown last spring. Entire pregnancy and first 9 months of 2’s life has been Covid. It has been such a vulnerable scary time and I don’t want to be that vulnerable again. I am vaxxed and it’s more about not wanting to be reliant on the medical system vs Covid specifically. Will I regret not going for 3?

Hello, I am a a23 year old who just graduated with a BA degree In Cyber Security. I have two years of cyber security experience that is mainly focused on vulnerability management and user awareness training. I have recently accepted a job as an IS engineer for 65k but am now thinking about leaving after only two weeks due to the fact that I don’t enjoy working for large companies as you are so segmented. I also realize that 65k is low for cybersecurity. What should I target for my next to role?

Seeing a ton of recruiters and posts for fund accounting jobs & have a few questions.
1) How are these jobs from a wlb perspective? Is it just like any other industry job with busy month/ q/ year ends?
2) I tend to see large bonus opportunities for these jobs, what metrics are the bonuses usually based off?
3) What type of exit opps does the role of fund accountant offer?
Thanks so much!!
