I love that you're willing to learn!
Spending time on things that are not essential. We had a project where he spent hours tweaking a logo "for fun." That meant I had to stay late the next day as part of the team because he hadn't completed his work the day before. One thing that helps when your skill isn't on par is bringing knowledge. Keep up on your industry or focus so your peers aren't constantly explaining things and ideas. Good luck!
We had a freelance writer with the same personality. You have to give them an opportunity to change but if they can’t then you have to let them go.
Can you give examples? I ask because I came to the game late and want to be good and get better!
That makes sense! Thank you, and I think I’m on the right track!
I'm working with a Millennial designer who doesn't understand concepting or the process of partnering with a writer. This post is helping me understand that it may not be an issue of age but more individual character/experience.
@CW1 It may also be the difference between a designer and an art director.
@CD1 yes I gave this dude way too much credit and I am paying for my mistake of not realizing his limitations. I wouldn't be saying this if he wasn't mean AF on top of it all. Up in the middle of the night stressing about it actually.
Omg OP we are living parallel lives. Though I haven't brought it up to the higher ups bc I am afraid to look like a tattle tale. My new strategy is to not help him do his job and hope they see what they have. You gotta guard the words. Keep 'em safe. Don't let him encroach on that.
So I've had some new developments on the issue. I brought it up with my CD, hoping they'd pay more attention during work hours. They're very much aware of the issue but I don't think a conversation has been had. I haven't even started on my part of the project because I've been concepting in a silo for both of us. I've even had to tell the designer what to do for their half. It's incredibly frustrating and I my work is suffering.
You're so right... I think I'm forced to follow in your footsteps. I see no other way but to let them fail on their own.
