Ladies, I agreed to get take on a project with a hybrid travel schedule but after kicking it off, my SM is expecting a lot more travel than a few workshops. Full 3 nights, some back to back weeks, and every 3 weeks for sure. He’s also expecting co-location in between… how did we get here overnight? Also I have kids and honestly can’t put this kind of pressure on my spouse - pickups/drop offs, dinners etc. it’s just not fair on our family. How do I manage his expectations?

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

How important is it to provide availability for more immediate dates than later dates?

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

One key mistake I made while trying to get into PM was to tailor my resume bullet points towards *proving* I was a PM (I did user research! I defined the product vision!) vs. explaining what exactly I did. More lessons learned / tips and tricks 🔗 below.

Our company went through an exercise of redefining product roles - from business analyst, product owner, product manager to assoc pm, pm, senior pm etc.
The concept is everyone with same skills - with different competency levels.
My question is - what about interest? I am energized by execution, not so much strategy. Is product management for me, or should I be looking at other career paths?
Note: I am not overly ambitious, but do want to have a good salary for my retirement savings😉

How to track insane amount of open items? I’m in back to back meetings about different issues on different projects. What’s the best approach? I find myself thinking about the previous issue into the next meeting.

When creating OKRs and looking for metrics to shoot for, how do you calculate what said key results should be? Are they idealistic in nature, or should they be rooted in the work that you’re going to embark on? Then based on that work, a scientific deducing of how that work will effect the key result in the direction you’re trying to go? Essentially, I’m trying to see how calculated one must be.

Hi Folks, any insights on GTM roles? what would be the long term outlook / career growth? is it advisable to choose this path or stick with classic product management? did a quite an amount of classic product management in my career, have an option to choose GTM path, will this be any better in terms of growth or a dead end?

I just took over a SAAS product where I own P&L with 800 B2B clients with so much customization that it feels like 800 versions of the product. The product was acquired and there are a ton of process improvements needed, tribal knowledge and start up mentality. I have a PO who does the day to day work with the devs, but otherwise it’s just me. I’ve been a PM for 15 years and never felt so understaffed. I’d like to hear the level of responsibility you each have and how your team is structured.

Folks , I’m considering kicking off the job application process again. I feel like I can’t reach my potential as a PM at a consulting firm. For one, we have no access to user data, usually our users are clients, and we rarely get to interface with them. As a result, I don’t have any experience in A/B testing, or proper user experience research. Is this an extremely important skill? Should I look to jump sooner than later ? There are other skills I get to aggressively build here, however

1. What should I do for references? My company doesn’t know I’m interviewing, so who do I ask, when, and how? It’s not a question of who would give positive reviews, but rather who is appropriate to put in that position knowing they won’t want me to leave.

2. IF I get multiple offers, any tips on how to negotiate higher salary or more equity? I’m excited about each company so I don’t know how I’d rank my preferences if the offers are similar.
