Feel like it’s worse for writers too. Everyone knows they can’t design, but they all think they can write.
I get it. Just had a similar conversation with leadership today. I asked why other roles seem to have clear boundaries yet everyone is allowed to come into my yard and play around as much as they want.
The key is to listen thoughtfully and then not do what they say
Imagine you want your living room painted. You ask three painters to paint some rooms in other houses as a sample for you, on their own dime, to see if you like their work or not. In the end you like one’s paint scheme, and have your brother-in-law mimic it in exchange for a 6-pack of beer and a promise that you’ll help drywall his basement in the near future.

Bad ideas come from everywhere.
Imagine you want your living room painted. You ask a painter he says ok I will do it but only if I can work from home.
That’s it. That’s the story.

There’s a lot of generalizing here, people.
If you have worked with GREAT account or strategy people, you’ll know the value they bring, from helping us focus on the real problem to helping make the work tighter to helping sell it in. “Everyone thinks they can do that” too, but they are real skill sets.
On the flip side, yeah, I totally agree, the bad ones are out there too, and they can take down a great idea like a sharp axe to a sapling.
Imagine you hire a painter to paint your walls blue but the painter says "no, you should paint them red." A discussion ensues but the painter reminds you that they are a creative so they know best what you want and refuses to paint them blue even though you gave them a detailed document that clearly outlined strong reasons why they should be blue. So you get several people, with background on the project, to explain why the walls should be blue but the painter refuses to budge and just says you are killing their creativity and good work.
It goes both ways.
If they don’t give any feedback at all, how will people know they’re doing their jobs? 🤪
I don’t understand
I have never and still don’t understand why account has creative input… why are they part of the group approving my work?
