Immigrant here. Considering purchasing a house and wondering what weight would you attach to elementary school in your decision making? I have a 1 year old currently. See myself at the new house for at least 2-5 years. No more than 5 though.
How important is elementary school to set up my kid for success in Canada ? I am hearing conflicting opinions - some say elementary schools are the same all over GTA, doesn't matter where your kid goes. Is this true ?

Elementary school doesn't matter as much as high school

School quality isn't much of an issue in Canada, they are all pretty good. It's not like the US.
I disagree elementary schooling is foundational to future success. Definitely will develop good habits at a better school
I went to a pretty bad elementary school and public education throughout and made it to MBB. You definitely don’t need private school or an amazing public school to go into consulting. But I’m sure they 100% will advantage your kids if you plan for good schooling
If you 100% will be gone in 5years it won’t matter too much. BUT things rarely go to plan and you may be there longer, so take that into consideration
Depends if you want your child to go the private school route as well. A lot of the big name private schools use elementary private schools as feeders

Ah...interesting. thanks !
Better school near your house will make the demand for your house higher as it will be desired by families.
Family friendly - Burlington Orchard neighborhood. Use sights like https://www.fraserinstitute.org/school-performance and https://www.compareschoolrankings.org/ and others to narrow down neighborhoods.
Its worth it, do it. Even quality private/non-private Child Care is essential for your childs growth. More stable home, closer commutes. It all gives a reason to invest for the next 5 years. Studies come out every year on top learning centres for each age group, use that.
Elementary schools are mostly same over the GTA. Now if you want your kid to go to gifted school or private school, that's a different story
You can request your child be tested before Grade 3 if they show high aptitude. Gifted programmes start earlier than that for children who have already been identified as gifted. Grade 3 is just when they do the mass testing.
I switched elementary schools three, four times because my parents moved around a lot (US to Canada) when I was young. From personal experience, I think it doesn’t make a big impact aside that your child might miss their friends but curriculum-wise, there’s not much impact. Tbh, I think its actually beneficial because it teaches them it allows them to learn to adapt to different/unfamiliar environments at a young age.

I agree. I changed schools evey 2-3 years all my life. Nature of my father's job. Thanks for your insight !
Find a school that has French Immersion. Generally better imo.
