In 2008 with the layoffs who primarily got laid off? Junior associates, mid-levels, etc. or were incoming associates just delayed?

At the firm I then was with (V25 based in DC) we deferred incoming associates as much as a year and laid off some associates at all levels, primarily based on performance history although people in groups that weren’t busy were harder hit.

I got laid off as a first year in March 2009. Private Equity group. Biglaw firm in the south.

I’m super curious about this too! Very nervous, do people think this is as bad as 2008?

Folks, any advice on applying for jobs at a previous client? As a firm we have great relationships with the senior client leadership and I am afraid that the GEP and my RL will eventually find out when I submit my job application. On the other hand, if I tell my RL prior to applying, I will probably end up towards the top of “people to be laid off” list.

Hi guys, I got fired after H1B is approved but before it’s activated on Oct 1st. Is there any way I can transfer my H1B to my new employer? The H1B was filed via consular notification. I got fired in August, so don’t have any pay stubs for September. Btw currently I’m on STEM OPT.

Seeking advice. Has anyone negotiated severance pay during covid? I was just laid off after being with the company for 3yrs, working countless hours of overtime that I was never compensated for as an exempt employee and they only offered me two weeks pay as severance. Would appreciate feedback. #severance #covid #layoff

Was laid off in Sept. Unfortunately we will be seeing many more coming. It's what happens in a recession. Unfortunately I now also have my age against me. Not in a mentally good place at the moment.

I’m in big law and went on flex time (paid less, expectations of billed time decreased) well before COVID, due to family obligations. Anyone else here in the same boat?

I’m wondering if others have raised their flex time status as a way to kindly decline work if it gets to be too much... with big law layoffs and furloughs abound, speaking up feels like a catch-22. I’m the breadwinner, grateful to be employed, and trying to stay sane.

Anyone here familiar with the hiring process of KPMG consulting in Van? Had a partner interview on Nov 21, thought the feedback was positive but haven't heard back yet (no rejection/offer). Is it something normal or the interview just didn't go as well as I thought?

It's an experienced hire for an SC role. I saw the posting is still open atm, and my guess is that the recruiting team is comparing candidates since competition is higher due to recent layoffs.

Thanks in advance!

I have not been on a project for over 3 months. Since I joined, I have been put in training. The training got extended by a month and now it's close to 4 months since I joined and without a project.

What should I do? People say that I'm lucky to get paid without doing any work, but it is stressing me out. I need the experience. The uncertainty is freaking me out, with rumours of layoffs and the certification program and all.

How do I get into a project? How long do I have to wait more?
