In 5-10 years, do you see yourself still being a lawyer? Why or why not?

No because I'm already feeling burned out as a second year.

Being a lawyer? Yes. Being in a firm doing litigation, hell no...

Not in the least. I was going to write a long response but in short it comes down to two things...travel (a necessary evil for litigation) and discovery (the most evil creation in the history of man). After almost 20 years I’ve done more than my fair share of each. No mas.

I worked at a company for 2 years, promoted 3 times and up for a 4th. However, I was sexually harrassed by an upper manager and the place became a very hostile environment that I had to resign from. It's been 2 years and I have worked at several companies that were toxic and underpaid but did not know it at the time. Lost a lot of confidence in myself and am trying to get it back, did reflecting and am interested in transitioning to learning and development. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

What are the pros and cons of practicing in Texas? I am a junior associate with two young kids. The housing price in NY and California made it difficult to afford a single family house even with a biglaw salary. I could spend 1/5 to 1/3 of the budget but get a much nicer house in Houston/Dallas/Austin. Any insights?

Hi everyone. A friend knows that I do Staffing recruiting and this agency is in charge of providing medical benefits, PTO, and Holiday pay. I run the branch, I'm responsible for coaching, maintaining attendance, and dealing with verbal and written warnings, and termination. We use TempWorks to track everything from interviews, onboarding, E-Verify, background and drug screening, and payroll as well. I document everything. Ok, so my question is do I need any HR specific certifications?

Work for a firm who fudged the special bonus (not special as expected to hit hours in order to get it - was about 50 hours off). Billed 1850 cf 2000 requirement for year end bonus and looks like anyone not hitting won't get year end bonus. I'm not expecting a full bonus (and do not want to come across as entitled) but feel like deserve something for the work put in over the year, gaining recognition in legal publications across my speciality and being seconded to client. What would you do?

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!
