In 9 days Bill 27 (the Ontario Working for Workers Act) has mandated all companies (including ad agencies) to have written, and posted their ‘right to disconnect from work’ policy. Has anyone’s agency drafted or posted their policies yet? Anything good or all legal boilerplate claptrap?

We’re not supposed to send Slack or email after 6:00pm or before 9am. That’s been in place for over 2 years.

As adults in advertising why do we need legislation to give us the right to disconnect. Set your boundaries. Turn your phone off. Live your life. It actually is that easy.

I’m the same, SD. People can text in an emergency but I don’t work in PR, media buying, or Community Management so I’m not sure what an emergency would look like.

I’d be pleasantly surprised if anything changes at all.

It's BS legislation IMO.

Sometimes, our clients need to contact us after hours - especially if they're in other time zones. Who are they supposed to call? I turn off slack. I don't look at email. But if someone texts me with something urgent, it's my job to respond just as it's my agency's duty to let me go to a dentist app't at 10am. that's why we're salaried employees. No one exclusively works from 9-5. Set your boundaries but every once in a while, be willing to break them. And if it happens too often, speak up.

likefunny

It’s BS, but I don’t think for the reason you’re getting at. All the legislation says is that you need a policy. The policy can be exactly what you’ve described… which is why it’s meaningless.

Just because it’s a right doesn’t mean it’ll be encouraged.

I suspect those who take advantage of this legislation (if anyone does) may not see themselves progress as quickly as those willing to put I’m the work.

So basically consistent with how it is today.

You obviously haven’t worked at Sid Lee within the last few years.

That policy was put in place at the beginning of covid (long before this legislation was announced) and it’s been pretty well observed. And yes, also since we’ve been working on Rogers.

I’m sorry you had such a bad time all those years ago and are still bitter.

I moved to the Netherlands 3 months ago on a spouse visa. Was working with EY-P earlier. I have been applying to jobs and giving interviews but for some reason things are not working out. I get a different reason everytime (after going through the whole process). This has never happened earlier in life and now I don't know what else to do. I have worked as a strategy consultant (& a researcher). Should I change lines? Where else can I try?
I can't apply to boutique firms since Dutch is mandatory
