Lol if only. “Reverse binary tree” <import reverseBinTreeLC>

funny

Yeah. But I was referring to questions where some languages have the DS built in and other's don't and the question is not really about implementing the DS in question from scratch.

Depends on how much you want the job. Not sure I'd be willing to take that chance.

Prob best not to... Interviewer wouldnt know how the library works or even if it exists. If they allowed that, you could theoretically just say "I'm importing this library that will solve this problem in one line". Of course they wouldn't pass you like that.

To qualify this though, there are libraries for min heap built into python like heapq, common libraries like this is fair game.

They’re testing you on if you know what the libraries do. Otherwise, how do you know which code is time optimal?

Probably not. It would be nice though..

I agree with SEII - probably not worth taking the chance if this is an opportunity you're really interested in.

Let's take an example like min heap. Python has it, JS doesn't. So if I was using JS in an interview, I could just import a library and say what the time complexity is of each operation. It's not like the other candidate who's using Python and importing heapq is getting dinged, right? Obviously for a problem like invert a binary tree, they're not looking for a library that gives you a one line solution. Context is key here. Lastly, I could always implement the data structure at the end if time permits. I don't see how this could hurt you if it's done the way I described.

Amazon 1, thanks for your perspective. I will be sure not to rely on a 3rd party library, or at least be prepared to duplicate the functionality.

Anything third party at these companies is typically a big no no as they have the mindset of build it ourselves better than any third party ever could. On the job, likely you will not have access to download 3rd party libraries.

But if there are DSs built into the language, those are OK for both in the job and interviews (assuming the interview question isn't about replicating the DS)?

I wouldn't think they'd allow you to do this. Odds are you won't be doing it on the job, so you won't be doing it in the interview

Whiteboarding interviews should typically not require that, I have never had to

I had been interviewing with a product company. Cleared technical rounds and hr round as well. After that a manager discussion was held. After this hr stopped responding. Really felt horrible today.

Hi, I recently had an interview for an Analyst role in VCA. I didn’t do too well in the case study but feel confident in the behavioral/situation interviews. I got the answer but still stumbled a bit during. How are my chances if my case study interview was not strong but other interviews were? Also anyone have insight on the timeline for decisions after final interview? Is it possible to get an offer? I really want this position and disappointed in myself for screwing up but still hoping.
