In a dilemma- Im applying R1 and one of my managers who I’m going to request a letter of rec from is also who I would need to advocate for me for a promotion this upcoming cycle. Has anyone gone through something similar and have advice on how I should approach this?

I think that’s a lose lose scenario or win win depending on how thoughtful/understanding that manager is and wants the best for you. Might be best to choose a different person for rec? Use the manager you were referring to for a promotion case. It’s hard to advocate for someone who wants to leave the firm within a year bc of MBA. Just my POV.
