I just interviewed via zoom for JPMorgan Chase for trade support (thinking no more interviews were needed). The next day the recruiter calls me, saying that the team is very interest and went over logistics. She said she was going to talk back to the team and let me know next steps. The next day I get an e-mail requesting an interview again for the role but from the recruiting coordinator. Does JP give offers via zoom? Any similar stories?

I took an AS to MS promotion after ~1 year. I was nervous that it wouldn’t translate other places when I was looking for new jobs, but it did. Most places either have senior account supervisors, management supervisors or associate directors and they’re all pretty much the same thing. If you’d be making a lateral move if you left now I’d take the money and title, stick with it for a few months and then look.
Make sure you make an appropriate move tho. I don’t take anything less than 17-20% increase in salary. It’s gonna take some money to make me move. My last move to ACD was Just a week ago. And I got about a 45% increase. Just gotta work it
@AD1 I’ve tried to move internally - spoke with HR and my managing director several times about it and they just keep giving me more work on the same account. They can’t spare anyone right now (the account team is small) so I get why, but it’s frustrating.
I’m not happy at my current gig. Is it stupid to look elsewhere when I’m up for a promotion (although the MS title doesn’t exist everywhere so then it’d make my move even harder I guess)? Also how many years of experience is typical for an AD?
MS roles exist in a bunch of agencies, it’s not irrelevant. It’s a promotion. How many years have you been an AS?
Just saw a AS move into an AD role after a year. I’m sure that’s not the norm.
At what level are the other gigs you're looking for?
How certain are you about getting the MS promotion? And when / how soon?
Where in the looking for other gigs process are you? Interviews? Offer stage?
I’ve been an AS for a little over a year but I’m owning all of my own projects, very senior level clients, reporting into a GAD - so plenty of growth room. Recruiters have been reaching out for AS roles but I don’t want to move backwards and start fresh somewhere new. I’m about 80% certain about the promotion, to happen in the next 3-4 months. I’ve had a few initial stage interviews but nothing serious.
That’s my thought too @AMD1... I’m just getting impatient being somewhere where I’ve been unhappy for so long. But I’ve made it this far, I can do another few months
Making a lateral move having been an AS for a year shouldn’t make you feel you’re moving backwards. The new spot should recognize your year of experience and be clear with you upfront about what your growth trajectory would be. If MS doesn’t exist there, maybe senior AS or junior AD since you recognize that you may not be fully ready for the AD role. And, if you’re a strong performer at the new spot, a promotion may come sooner than you think. Don’t let your current agency’s structural ladder hold you back from making moves if you aren’t currently happy.
Wait what’s MS?
Hold up - OP, why are you unhappy more specifically? Seems like you've been given account autonomy, you work with senior clients directly, and have room to grow and a promotion shortly. All self identified items. I'm confused now. What is wrong exactly? Because I don't know yet if a new job is what's going to fix it.
MS = Management Supervisor (a title in account that some shops use)
@AD1 - the agency I work at is toxic, I strongly dislike the field that my client is in, and I recently was given a new supervisor who’s not the right fit. I have a lot of passion and I can feel it dwindling the longer I stay.
And @AD2 - agreed, appreciate that input thanks!
Ok, then I agree that a lateral move is not a step back, besides, everything needs to be put in perspective and based on what you last laid out, you'd be gaining a lot in other areas by getting out of there even if your title is still the same. Also, is it possible to request a move internally where you are now to another account/team as another option or solution to your situation?
Got it. Start looking now as it will take a minute. Meanwhile, if you can muster a few more months to get that MS title, it would be great to make a lateral move at that level instead. So look for openings at Sr As, MS, Group AS, Associate AD style titles
