In a third world country for a project... my Marriott airport pickup driver hit and killed two stray dogs on the way to the hotel. I don’t even want points. What the hell do I do/say?

Third world? You must have missed the memo that no one uses that term anymore. It’s either developed or developing country.

Are there cold parts of India that could have been at war?

Are you sure he killed them? They might just be maimed.

Wait this comment is a joke right

Nothing. Dogs don’t hold the same value elsewhere as they do here. I’m going to assume you’re in the ME?

like

Nah, not ME. I understand the cultural difference vis-a-vis the perceived value of dogs’ lives. If anything, us Americans overvalue dogs. What I don’t understand is that you don’t just hit two substantial animals - dogs or not - with your employer’s car while you have a customer on board and not even blink an eye. We’re not talking about mosquitos here. There’s blood on the windshield.

like

OP I'd report it with the hotel and let the pieces fall where they may. Marriott is an American hotel so they may actually care about it.

like

Third world? You mean Switzerland?

like

Hah! Almost said it myself.

they're stray dogs that cause problems... it's like hitting a deer in the US...

like

Stray dogs in other countries are like hitting a deer here. Stop expecting every country to follow norms that you are comfortable with or how you think it should be. You are somewhere else, their ways go

Also, you’re not getting any points anyway. Don’t believe me? Try.

Ah-ha! I knew it was McKinsey behind the new points structure at Marriott!

Nothing

I grew up in a third world country, with lots of strey dogs, seeing exterminators beating dogs to death instead of using allotted shells / bullets (they could sell bullets for a little extra cash). However, even there purposefully running over a dog would be very frowned upon. Assuming he veered towards the dog trying to hit it or didn’t try to safely avoid it, I would report him to hotel manager, as there might be bigger psychopathic problem with that person. There was a guy who drove my dad for work for, he would purposely chase dogs/cats or any smaller animal with the government issued car. Ultimately, he crashed it. And, apparently, he was a drug addict.

Did he hit them deliberately? Could he have avoided the tragedy? Think of being in a similar situation in your first world country and you hitting a deer a night. What would you do in that case?

If it was done on purpose, I would 100% bring it up to the hotel and contact Marriott directly. That would be a devastating experience for me personally and I would voice those concerns

I know my client needs an Accounting Manager. I know this because they’re startup med device company that has their books in complete shambles. The current accounting team isn’t very strong. How do I let the client know that I would be interested in joining them? They’re not actively recruiting for any position but I know they’d benefit from it. Serious responses only :)

Not sure if driving is advisable as a daily commute as and when things open up.
