I keep reading about gamification in the classroom. Is this a good idea or silly?

Are you required to come into your building? I'm teaching vitrtually, but 2 days a week I'm required to come into my classroom.

Just curious...What does it look like in your building when there are no substitutes available anywhere within the district's pool? Are you combining classes or having teachers cover an hour during their plan period? Do counselors, building administrators, and other "specialized" positions rotate in to cover the classes that are without teachers? It has become a daily challenge to staff our classes this year and I feel that the burnout rate is going through the roof!

Hello! For those of you that teach a self-contained classroom, what is your class size? How many paraprofessional do you have? Our self contained rooms seem to be STUFFED.

There are several children in my classroom who keep having tech issues. How can I support them without taking away from instruction time?

I have taught at 5 different schools yet only Henrico Co PS place a moderate value on Behavior intervention as a means of response to disruptive behavior, creating rapport , restorative circles and trauma informed care. Suspensions are not a long term deterrent to violence, bullying and resolving our children’s mental health issue. Are your school systems supporting consistent and prompt intervention policies?

Question about inclusion…. I’ve been teaching inclusion for 5 years so I’m still a newb, but a first year coworker of mine said she got points off on her observation because her kids were scattered in the classroom and she was having to move from kid to kid to assist. While I see the point of putting them together for convenience, I don’t agree with this at all! To me this is like singling them out by putting them all together instead of INCLUDED amongst peers. What do y’all think?

Looking for anyone in the same situation. Self contained classroom (gr. 3,4,5) of 11 students. 2 of the students are on grade level academics but are in my class because of severe behaviors. The 9 other students have be unable to have individual help with academics because these two students take all my time with their behaviors. I have some support but it just happens day after day. Any behavior mgmt ideas that I may have been missing?

What are some of your favorite beginning of the year activities for creating a sense of community in your classroom?

We started state testing today with my kiddos taking their FSA Writing. It is the first time I have seen them in school as they are a digital class, and such an amazing experience to see them together as they talked amongst themselves before we went to the classroom to test. You can see how much they miss being together. ❤

I work in an internal ops role in consulting, I started a a week ago while also being accepted into a top exec mba program starting in the fall. I plan on doing it and funding it myself but will need to have 2 weeks this year and 2 weeks early 2023 for travel and classroom weeks. When would you ask/tell the manager about this and if they would be supportive?

I’m thinking about going back to school to be an administrator, but I’m not sure if I’m really the right person for the job. I like the idea of a pay raise and getting out of the classroom, but those aren’t good enough reasons.
