Today my partner told me he wanted me to work some more hours in the office because I need to hit 200 billable hours this month. He says lay offs are a possibility and they will go strictly by numbers, not ability. Is this basically how other firms are reacting or is mine over the top?

In my office we don’t want lay offs. The reality though is that they may become inevitable, but that time is 6 months away at least, and only if there is no hope in sight. If that time comes it will be both ability and hours, but to be honest the hours often reflect ability. Bottom line: if I were you get your hours as high as you can. There may not be any to go around in a couple of months, and the closer you can get to your annual target before that happens the better.

After 6mo of successful WFH protocol/productivity during this pandemic, Havas Edge Carlsbad had their agency deemed “essential workers” w/ two days back to work notice, no exceptions. Edge has already had a Covid case and SD county is back to high-risk “purple”. Protocols for testing/return to work were unintelligible at best , misleading at worst. Havas should be appalled given their national stance on safety of workers and embrace of teleworking as the future.

Confession - I don't want to go back to office. I'm happy working from home and find no solid reason in stepping back. I hope the flexi work culture allows permanent WFH - I don't have a "good enough" reason, but I don't want to go (isn't this good enough?) It's been 1.5 years now, too comfortable to step out from my PJs to jeans.

I did my second natural cycle IUI today and the two week wait commences. If it doesn't work, we will be going to IVF. Thankful for remote work as it allowed me to have privacy over my schedule.

Back on the market and I’m coming to find two things: 1. Less desirable agencies are the ones who want people back on-site soon, with no wiggle room for remote work. 2. These same agencies want to pay salaries based on COL in the city where the agency is based even if you’re working/living from another market in the interim. Example: Midwest based agency paying Midwest salaries to folks living in places like NY, SF, LA. 🧐🧐🧐🧐

My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. Canada or Europe ) for a few days if they are supporting during US work hours. Big 4 is strict about international work location, so just curious.
