Hikes
- Makapuu tidepools (same path as the lighthouse, but you veer off at one point)
- Lanikai pillboxes (go for sunrise)
- Hanauma Bay Ridge (go for sunrise)
- Kuliouou Ridge (moderate difficulty)
- Lulumahu (short to a waterfall)
- Pali Puka (avoid if afraid of heights, only go on a calm clear day)
- Crouching Lion (pretty steep but very short, view is definitely worth it)
- Pu’u Ma’eli’eli (first part is slippery in rain but otherwise it’s great)
- Ehukai Pillbox (sunset)
- Pink Pillbox (sunset)
- Ka’ena Point (more like a long nature walk than a hike)
- Diamond Head (amazing view, but very full of tourists and tourists pay a fee…not worth it unless it’s the only accessible hike for you)
- IMO skip koko crater
Beaches/water activities
- Lanikai beach
- Kayak to the Mokes from Lanikai/Kailua
- Kayak/walk/swim out to mokolii (Chinamans hat)
- IMO you can skip Waikiki, but if you really want to do it go towards the Diamond head side near kuhio or queens
- Snorkel at Hanauma Bay (if you can get a reservation, don’t stress if not)
- Snorkel at Shark’s Cove
- Snorkel at Electric Beach
- Mermaid Caves (only get in if it’s low tide)
- Makaha or Yokohama Bay
- Sunset Beach
- Waimea Bay (super busy on weekends)

Waikiki:
Marukame Udon
Royal Hawaiian’s breakfast (guava pancakes)
Noi Thai
Honolulu:
Leonard’s
North Shore:
Laniakea Beach for turtle spotting
Polynesian Cultural Center
Elephant Truck (great casual Thai)
Sunset Beach/Sharks Cove for sunset
Giovanni’s shrimp truck
Ono Seafood
When you go to the North Shore, just go sit on the beach and watch the surfers on a day with big surf. It’s CRAZY how big the waves get and how surfers can navigate them. At least it was to me - entertained me and my kids for over an hour.
The Dole Plantation is touristy but also fun…
Circle island tour
Wow M1, I think I’m going now.
Book a long trip, it’ll take a while to get through all that 😅
Thanks to all for the amazing suggestions. I’ll be doing some of these for sure!!
Two weeks is a great amount of time. All the above are awesome suggestions. I’ll second Kualoa Ranch tours. Our family had an amazing time learning about the movies and history.
I would consider booking a Hawaiian Airlines inter island flight (like 50 bucks a person) over to Kauai for a few days if you haven’t been. It’s my favorite island and the helicopter tours and the Grand Hyatt there were incredible!
Thanks for the suggestion on Kualoa Ranch tours!
