Servicing notice period in TCS, LWD Oct 2nd. HR took my counter offer letter for retention process but still there is no update yet. Due to personal circumstances I can't switch now and planning to revoke the resignation but also waiting if TCS may revise salary. Do you think can I keep any hope it's jus 15 days more to LWD and if they don't retain when should I revoke the resignation? Please suggest Tata Consultancy Infosys Wipro Tech Mahindra

Business 101- Never trust verbal promises.
You are welcome
Be careful. Easy for them to make that promise now, but 6 months from now they say “oh sorry, COVID has impacted promotion timelines, give it another 6 months”
So it comes down to how confident you are that capital will come through
Depends on what you want to do post-MBA, if consulting, you will be brought back in at Senior level
Advice still applies imo
Can you defer?
I can at one of the schools (2nd choice but not that far off). 1st choice will not allow deferrals
Depends on ur goals. Why u going to masters in first place?
To learn new things, to pivot away from finance and Corp dev toward research and product.
But I’ve been enjoying the hustle a bit more recently....
The hustle more recently will not be indicative of what you will experience in 6 months. If you know you don’t want to do finance get out. Depending on your age and career goals, I would:
1) go to grad school if COVID won’t disrupt your experience. If the field is focused on hands-on learning and you’ll loose the networking and connectivity component, I won’t exercise this option just yet
2) if you got in now, chances are you’ll get in later. These are very uncertain times for many people. School will be flexible if your circumstances change. They don’t if you are immune compromised or not. They don’t if you have the setup to effectively switch to the virtual learning, not work, environment
Is grad school meant to help shift career paths? If not, then just see the odds of the verbal offer coming true vs. the expected gain from going to grad school.
When does this promo happen? If school will be online this fall and work is not too demanding (and also online) maybe do both for a while? You can always quit one if it gets too rough.
Maybe. Seems awful tbh. I already work 60hrs minimum
This decision is ripping up my insides someone tell me what to do lol
If you stay and don’t get the promo, would you be happy? I wouldn’t base a decision on a verbal promise unless that person is a decision maker.
And agreed D2. If there were no covid I’d be going to school 100%
Are you certain that you'll still work 60 hrs 3 or 4 months from now? Will the promo change what you do? Can you cut back on those hours somehow?
And again, you could quit or pause . Schools are often pretty flexible. Work and study at the same time for this coming fall semester. If you don't like your job in December, quit and focus on your studies. If you want to focus on your job for a while, ask the school if you can pause your enrollment for a year and return in January 2022 without needing to reapply. You then get a year to focus on work and decide if you like it, and you have a backup plan if you decide to quit and focus on studies.
Good suggestions / what I’ve been largely thinking about. I definitely will still be working those hours for quite a while (small company). So even taking one online class while maintaining the “always on call” work lifestyle is going to be tough. And the promo change if anything would give me more responsibility which would increase hours.
