Contractors on the team still exist and so does the team. I can’t help but wonder whether performance was a factor and it makes me really sad even after a few months! I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school.

Plaintiff side question - comp is base plus % of fees. Firm has non equity split % with associate working on case. This normal for a non equity partner? Normal associate comp is full % when working with an equity partner.

Putting in notice today at a very small firm that the owner wished for me to take over one day. It’s time, and it’s complicated, but according to former associates he’s acted completely unreasonable in response to associates leaving. Wish me luck.

How much revenue did you generate during your first year as a solo? I’m thinking about going solo next year. I practice divorce law now so I would continue doing that once I start my own firm. What should I budget for and what did you make the first year?

CA: I have a quick question, we entered into a pre-lit settlement agreement for money owed to my client. The other party has now breached the settlement agreement (almost 60 days). Are the next steps to file a civil suit for breach of contract or is there a faster way to get a judgement enforced? I mainly handle transactional matters but I’m helping a client out with this.

Just finished my 2021 taxes as a solo attorney and I don’t know whether to be sad that my business wasn’t more profitable 1.5 years after starting or happy that my husband and I are receiving a small refund. But, I am proud I turned a profit - even if it was small. However, the first quarter of 2022 is almost at the same gross profits as all of 2021. So, that’s a definite positive.

Do small firms/boutiques really have better hours than Big Law? A recruiter told me I should still expect to bill 2000 hrs at a boutique, but if that’s the case, why take the pay cut?

Atty as of July 2020. I planned to start a small firm with a fellow grad after school--then COVID happened. He continued forward with a solo crim def firm, and because I wanted to do business/startup law, I waited (again, COVID). I then got a job with the government (PSLF was appealing).

We gave this a lot of thought (incl. partnership agreement, business plan, etc.), and the itch is back.

Is it worth leaving the gov't and the PSLF gold handcuffs, or stay? Or should I wait for COVID to end?
