Do you conceal carry, and if so, under what circumstances?
How do you make decisions about how to defend yourself? As in, if confronted with a hostile person, how do you think about whether you’re going to try to deescalate/say something vs use martial arts vs pull out your weapon?
Thoughts on storage of firearms at home? I have young kids and have been resistant to the idea of guns because I can’t see how I can both safely store them so it’s not a danger to kids AND have it be accessible enough to use for home protection.
Edit: is there any good resource for someone to learn like the extreme basics about this topic? Similar to theprepared for disaster prep. Realize I’m asking some very ignorant questions here. 🙏
Wow thank you this is so helpful!
Props OP. Appreciate you speaking out and educating the community.
I will second this, thanks OP and keep on spreading your words!

Also have ~8 years of martial arts training and happy to talk less than lethal tools as well.
Disclaimer up front that I’m not a lawyer or someone with any professional military background. Just a lot of personal interest and some experience I want to be able to share.
Also will say up front that taking up weapons for self-defense is a huge responsibility you must be willing to accept. An unsecured weapon, poor training, or emotional response can lead to preventable death or grave injury, often to a loved one like a child or yourself. Be aware of what you’re getting into before you run off thinking you’re the next John Wick.
Are you planning on forming a organization? Like some sort of armed neighborhood watch or something? If so put up a go fund me. I will donate and I’m sure many in the community will too.
I am volunteering to donate food and beverage too.
What state do you live in? Holding back on buying because I may move states soon. What first handgun would you recommend? Thinking about glock but I don’t like the idea of no external safety.
A3 from what i have heard, in CA you are better off just risking carrying illegally.
Do you recommend pepper spray / tasers etc for those who don’t want to carry a gun / learn martial arts?

IANAL. This indicates you live in either New York or Massachusetts, the two states which have made less than lethal self defense extremely difficult.
You can purchase in those states from what is called in the shooting world a licensed FFL — essentially a gun store with a Federal Firearms License. I have done so in Massachusetts. Or you can just carry it across the border from a free state. Check your state laws carefully on legal purchase, carry, and use.
As an aside, this encapsulates my gripe with gun control and adjacent legislation. It only makes weapons inaccessible or difficult to get for people like you trying to follow the law. If you don’t have the means to travel across state lines or to a distant FFL, you are effectively disenfranchised.
Do you think that self defense will have the opposite effect if it is used on a “historically marginalized” minority given the current political climate? (E.g. an police officer shooting someone who charged at him end up going to jail himself)
Pro
I’m not a sociologist but I can see that happening. In your personal world, a good shoot is one that saves the life of you or your family and ends up with no legal consequences.
To think like a politico, it is important to control the narrative up front: marginalized minority that is targeted fights back. It’s the truth, and frankly, it the political left doesn’t want to call it that way, maybe the right will. Democrats use Asians like political poker chips and stage props, and it’s time we show them the cost of that without falling into race-baiting dog whistles.
How did you first get exposed to guns? I'm Chinese American and my family has always regarded guns with a lot of fear, and admittedly the fear has passed down to me. Are your family/friends generally supportive of you carrying?
Also curious if you have an opinion on the NRA
Also Mike Glover (ex-Green Beret, half Korean) and Shawn Ryan (ex-SEAL, half Japanese) with both of them having their own training companies and prominent YouTube presence.
Next-Gen Roof Korean
Good, now if only we can convince the Chinese community of the same thing. If I ever move into an Asian community I’ll make sure it’s mostly Korean haha.
I don't own a gun but thinking about getting pepper spray and brass knuckles. I also have 10 years of sport Jiu-Jitsu training but realize it may not always work out on the streets.
Lol brass knuckles? Why not just get a gun? At least guns are legal in some states, you get caught with brass knuckles, no lawyer in the world can help you.
OP, do you carry during work or just when you’re home for the weekend pre-COVID? Wondering about flying and rules with conceal carry at client sites (started consulting during COVID so I have no experience).
