Lots of colleagues and friends in firm management across AmLaw 50-100 firms. Generally speaking for those size firms, they are modeling 15%, conservatively, off of 2020 budget (top line revenue). Models also being run for 20 and 25% off top line. Depending on firm, that means impact to net income available to equity partners is a multiple of that - so upwards of 35-65% off of expected partner income. That of course does not take into account expense reductions, staff/associate cuts, salary cuts/furloughs, capex deferments, summer programs being cancelled, lease abatement, etc. but even with all of that you are looking at 10-25% off net income. Bad result all around.

For a midsize firm, especially one that is lit focused, I would imagine the impact on top line to be somewhat higher.

11 year back my heart was broken (ofcourse due to well known reasons like poor you, rich she,age gap,no job . Doesn't matter)

Ques is why some memories hit so hard, even after these many years have passed, we have moved on, have achieved so much in life career (except love)

I always wonder whether a good closure would have made any difference ? Or 1 should accept to learn that there are no happy endings. It is what it is. You ll not get closer, you need to live with this.

Feeling pensive...

Whenever I'm in a salary negotiation discussion, the HR asks for my expected CTC.

I tell them a number and they are like - ohh.. that's way beyond our budget, I see that you got a hike a couple of months ago blah blah blah and tell me what they plan to offer - which generally is way below my expectation.

In the spur of the moment, I quickly reduce my expected CTC to be lesser than what I would happily accept. I regret doing that the very next minute. How can I negotiate better?

At the beginning of covid, my firm cut pay and made the decision to halt lock-step increases this year. Makes sense. They have not reversed this despite the firm hitting over the projected budgets. They are also hiring over 10 new associates to start this month and next. They are milking this covid shit right? Am I wrong for thinking they should take care of their current employees before bringing on new ones? I'm pissed and annoyed. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

Fish, I am a part of a mid to large size firm with a smaller med map practice team of about 10. We go to lunches and dinners regularly as an entire team and I always find one associate in particular just loud and takes up the entire conversation. Is there any way to handle this? I don’t want to be loud but I would like to contribute yo the conversation and I find that I can’t do it when this particular associate joins the lunch or dinner. Advice? Thanks!

How argumentative are you with your partners? I was assigned to draft a motion. I studied the issue for hours. Felt sure about my findings. I drafted it and sent it for review. Partner came back with a different argument, which I know to be wrong based on the case law. Ultimately, we went back on forth on drafts over this issue but I couldn’t give her what she wanted because I can’t physically argue something I think is flat out wrong. She ended up doing it herself.

Should I give 3 weeks notice? Accepted a new job. Start date is 12/6, but planning for last day at this one to be 11/23 so I have time to cook for Thanksgiving and then go away 11/29-12/5. Problem is that the one person in my office who works with similar clients has been sick and out and not responding to emails. There’s a big motion due 12/29 he or someone else will have to handle. Already pushed start date into Dec because we have a big pre-trial filing due 11/16. So 11/2 or 11/9?
