Had my first code review this week and just realised how bad I am at writing functions that are specific and not monsters that do 10 different things. There’s so much to learn! A new CS grad probably knows more about development than me and I’m almost 30!

I’ve taken basic courses in OOP and DS/A but in consulting I only ever had to make stuff work on my laptop and never in prod

Experience, mentorship, and studying.

Something that helped me a lot was Head first design patterns and head first object oriented analysis and design. I know it sounds kind of dumb to read books to help programming but they’re really well made and easy to follow and I found them to be invaluable

Hi, I need your honest opinion on this. Currently I have done AWS cloud practitioner certificate and want to progress but I don't think to like Solution Architect that much, I feel it will be boring for me. I love to create things, and love data manipulation, so I found this course in Google data engineer + AI... I feel it might be good fit for me. What do you think about it. Am looking for something I can study and stick with it long run. Thanks 😊.

I’ve been offered a position that I’m really excited about. Their initial offer was 10K more than the top of the salary range they gave me for the position when I asked during the interview process and at the top end of the salary requirements I set for myself. My partner thinks I should still negotiate for more even though I’m happy with the offer. Am I an idiot if I don’t negotiate in this case? Realistically, I don’t think I’d get much more than that, but should I negotiate out of principle?

Having my weekly crisis here. I feel like I’ve ruined my career by doing insurance defense at the same firm for 8 years. I’ve been aggressively job hunting for six months in this state, I previously took the bar in another state and was job hunting there for over a year. I haven’t had anything come up. The only options seem to be the miserable sweatshop ID shops everyone says to steer clear from. Thinking about a career change to selling cars so I can make more money. Really having a meltdown

I'm doing everything in my power to not quit without another job lined up, and every interview falls through. I'm overwhelmed by my clients, I've had enough corporate koolaid for a lifetime, I could not care less about what I do, and I've started exhibiting destructive behaviors at work but keep getting told I'm doing great.

If I'm going to be stuck here, clearly my attitude is the main problem. How have you learned to find joy in your job? What makes you feel like you matter here? Why stay?

I just went to each of the 'careers' pages.. Updated resume to match the requirements on each posting. Called out on resume that I need immigration sponsorship. Had a cover letter for each posting.
Before that I spent money on getting a professional resume from Monster. Highly recommended. Good luck all.

I’ve been reading some articles making a case for lower rates in 2023… obviously no one knows but does anyone agree/think it might be lower next year?

Is this too much for the office? I do not own one yet, and am very new to the watch world. I’m hoping to go for this next year.
