In my HSA I am holding 4% in ARKG and 4% in PBW (clean energy index). Both are down 50%... looking to consolidate my funds, so I am considering selling them both and allocating the 8% into something like XT? I understand I made those purchases in times of extreme optimism, so that is an F on my part.

My other funds in there are 64% VTI, 16% VXUS, 5% VWO and 7% EMQQ.

Looking to buy, hold, and DCA. Would you swap ARKG/PBW for something like XT?

Even if you make a good fund selection, it's like 8% of an account that is capped at a few k a year. Does not make any tangible difference

like

Exactly. I can add that you pay high fees on top! I'm the kind to overthink so i just decided to put everything in basic index and not look at it

like

I have a couple of ARK funds too and planning to sell to put into VTI this week.

like

My HSA is 85% VTI and 15% VXUS, for what it’s worth. I’d keep it simple.

Can you tax loss harvest them ? Move
The principal into VTi ?

Stop buying stupid meme funds and just do 100% SP500

It is worthy to note that 8% of my HSA makes up a minor fraction of my overall NW.

I am heavily, heavily allocated to the S&P already (but prefer total-market indexes). Just trying to figure out if I get out now, or if I wait it out and re-allocate at a later date.

Should I wait until that promotion is offered to me? Or would it be dumb to apply for a Venture X card separately and a) hold both cards or b) close out the original Venture card.

Additional Posts in FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

Advice time. So I’m making 100k roughly and I still live with my parents. Moved back due to COVID as did a lot of people I think? Anyways I want to save $ to buy a house. Should I still be living at home? I was planning on leaving when COVID finally becomes a thing in the past so assuming the summer of 2022 so roughly 8 months from now. I know I am extremely blessed and thankful to god that my parents are kind and allow me this but just want advice please.

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

Do people tend to age out of wanting to FIRE?

In your 20s-30s, you don’t know much, you’re told what to do, you have few financial resources so you are tied to your job. Under these circumstances it makes perfect sense why you would want to FIRE asap.

But eventually you advance up the ladder, you are now the boss and your people do all the grunt work. You also have built up expertise which makes the job easier. And you are making the best money of your life. FIRE is no longer so pressing.
