Why is our culture so adamant about marriage and kids? Even late in life, there is no guarantee marriage (or your kids) will keep you happy. And if the larger purpose is to have a fall back, then why not spend the money and time on a nice retirement community by the beach with a nurse to wipe your bum? It’s like we have convinced ourselves there’s only one way to live life and the only family/community we can build is through a spouse. I find this approach to life depressing and suffocating.
