Reach out and cold email people in that group. See if they are available for coffee and that you want to learn more. Keep reaching out and then express interest in their group and if they know of any openings to let you know if possible. Also try to see how you can market yourself and why you want the position
I was in a similar situation and have made the transition recently. I don't know what region you are in but reach out to your local DA/AAS team and let them know you would be interested in rotation as they usually require you to be on a rotation to the team before the transfer.
Can you describe your experience with the rotation in deal? I showed interest and met with quite a few people in the Tyson’s office. However, projects have sufficiently decreased due to the end of lease accounting and revenue recognition work. How far in advance did you share your availability and is there a better time of year to complete a rotation (ie. summer months)?
How much accounting experience do you have, financial statements, etc? Any technical areas?
Most all of my work has been in SOX. Testing for 3 cycles and now I'm doing an "optimization" project to enhance current process documentation and basically perform a gap analysis. Allot of my experience also includes standing up controls for new accounting standards.
Apply to open positions and use the skill sets you’ve obtained in internal audit to show your qualifications for the other positions you’re interested in
Try using free resources available online such as REFM (real estate financial models) and self teaching through internal resources as well to show you’re taking an active approach to learning something else beyond a “grass looks greener on the other side” approach. This is just prior to meeting with anyone
Everyone has made good points. Just keep in mind that since your work history is not really relevant to either FDD or AAS type work, if you do transfer over you may have to go back a level/delay promotion time-line. Worth it if it's what you want to do though.
