Do you really want to do audit long term or do you want to use audit experience to eventually go into industry?
If you’re still a staff, now is the time to switch. Don’t wait. It gets a lot harder as you go up the chain and your career momentum builds

I'm guessing you don't actually want to do audit, you want the audit exit ops. What's your long term goal? FP&A?

Yeah tax exit ops are pretty much...tax. Do you think there's any way you can jump directly from tax to FP&A? There must be some transferable skills if you find a company willing to give you a chance.
If not, then you probably need to switch to audit now; don't wait. If you apply for audit associate jobs I feel like you'd have a shot as long as you're good with starting over. Idk about going through a staff accountant role. That could be an okay option if you think you can transfer internally to FP&A, but idk how much it would help you jump to audit.
I'm in FP&A now and don't have an audit background. Tbh my background is probably even less suited for FP&A than tax. Happy to chat it you want to PM me.
I don't think tax pays that much more at most firms?
Came in as an experienced hire, so idk if I’d be back at campus hire salaries if I switched.
Grass looks greener on the other side. The accountants in industry are not specialized so many of them are replaced after years of services. Pay is terrible too.
