I would think third party because my understanding is that they are paid typically by commission on the candidates salary . Would be interested to hear opinions
Probably third party. They get paid as a % of your comp.
In-house recruiters are not as motivated as 3rd party headhunters in finding the best candidates. 3rd party recruiters are often paid by % of candidate's salary so it is in their best interest to negociate a competitive pay for you. You may end up with a slightly better financial package if you work with a reputable 3rd party recruiter.
It depends on the headhunter. Some opportunities are only available through them, eg PE. But there are many many headhunters out there that just play a numbers game. Stay away from these!
That makes sense, thanks. My only thought was maybe a company would be more willing to up their offer to you since they aren’t paying the piece to the recruiter
If a headhunter brings you to them , you are a scarce resource they found, dangled in front of them … If you apply, somehow you are begging to be hired. It’s sort of an emotional thing and not logical.. in my opinion .. I think the headhunter will convince them to pay more .. otherwise they get zero .. in house may just get a flat salary so not as incentivized to get you personally hired as the headhunter would be
I think they would be more willing to bump the signing bonus if they don’t have to pay a 3rd party recruiter
I can understand this, but a recruiter typically has more inside knowledge of the budget for the position. So they are better armed to negotiate for the higher end of the budget. They’re incentivized with their comp structure to get you the highest compensation possible.
Care to share names of some good ones?
Based on my limited information, I would imagine 3rd party. My internal recruiter is great but he rarely pushes for more money than he has to for our candidates. He just tries to make sure their salary requirements are met.
