In the Bay Area. How hard is it to go from an individual contributor role to managerial? No upward mobility at current firm. Wondering if I should move to another individual contributor role at a larger tech company (FAANG) which might open up more opportunities? Or, aim high for a head of talent role somewhere else.

Some tips:

1. Don't make your technical expertise the focal point. As a manager, your new job is to create an environment that enables your team to showcase their talents.
2. Ask questions & encouraging your team to pursue their ideas helps build trust & rapport. Be willing to let them stumble and experiment.
3. Support your team's development by teaching them new techniques or techniques you know, that they don't. This helps support their growth.
4. When they ask for advice, ask them ... What they think they should do? Doing this helps stimulate critical thinking, and demonstrates that you trust people to think & act for themselves before you jump in with a solution that may seem obvious to you.
5. Support your teams learning. Send them technical or subject matter training and/or give them time to attend webinars/training & encourage them to share what they've learned with the team.

Need advice- recently got an offer & currently going through the background check via HireRight. 1 of my experiences is an unpaid volunteering position abroad. I’m facing 2 problems:

(1) HireRight is asking for a name and number to verify my position, but the person that organized the volunteer experience is unresponsive to me and my emails/calls. I know not having a reference makes it look suspicious but I don’t feel comfortable putting someone as a reference w/o their approval. (Read comment)

What’s the day-to-day like for a BTS tax consultant at Deloitte? I received a verbal offer for a tax consultant position but after one of my rounds, I became weary in regard to whether this position was right for me. One of my interviewers made the work seem mostly automated and said that 99% of my job would be reviewing and not preparing; while another interviewer made the work seem like it would be similar to what I’m doing now. Can someone tell me what tax staffs do day-to-day/in busy season?

I'm looking to find a job like the Forward Deployed Engineer role Palantir Technologies in the UK.

I have become hooked on finding a job that involves solving the kinds of problems they presented during their interviews. Although I got to the final round my performance anxiety got the better of me (I think I wanted the job a bit too much...). I will reapply after working in a similar company.

Is it "deep tech" / "data science" or "smart enterprise" that they're doing? Any advice welcome.

Interested to see some perspectives - currently working at a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at a fast growing company and recently passed my PHR! I just started this role only a few months ago but am already feeling like I can take on more, but not as much as a HR manager. I’m struggling to understand where exactly it is I can go from here. I’m 25, have 3 years of experience, and get paid $59k/year.

Where does one go from here? Thanks in advance for any and all answers!
