Happy New Year! Although just a change of a digit on the calendar, the fact that we’ve rotated around the sun gives people inspiration for change. What new or altered mindset or actions will you be bringing into your classroom in 2021? 🤩
Has anyone had success with changing the lighting in your classroom? I'm thinking about replacing the use of overhead lighting with lamps.

I work at a school with limited resources. My walls are a dingy white, the tables are old, harsh fluorescent lighting, etc. What are some suggestions for creating a warm/inviting classroom space?
What’s the best thing you’ve done for your classroom management? I teach 10th grade English. I’m young and look younger than I am. Next year will be my 3rd year teaching. My classroom management was better this year but still want to improve. Learning how to be firm and consistent without being mean.
End of Year Sign Out Poll: I’m curious how many teachers are required to: give up their keys at the end of the year even when they’re returning, clean out their classroom even when they’re returning, do intensive cleaning/janitorial duties before signing out, or other ridiculous procedures? (My answer in comments)
I found this article and wondered what people here thought about it. It deals with teacher licensing tests. Among other things, it presents the case for a positive correlation between performance on a licensing test and performance in the classroom. It also argues there is an outsized number of teachers (over 50%) that don’t pass the licensing test on the first try. Any newer teachers out there who can weigh in on their teacher prep program and the licensing test experience? https://www.nctq.org/publications/Driven-by-Data:-Using-Licensure-Tests-to-Build-a-Strong,-Diverse-Teacher-Workforce/
I’m doing summer school for the first time. I’m being placed at a different elementary school in my district in a grade I don’t teach? Any ideas for classroom management?
I feel like classroom management is harder for me than for others. I'm starting to think that it's because I am a male teaching in an elementary.

Anyone ever had a class that no matter what you do or how you discipline, the kids run around the classroom, scream out, and create total chaos?
We had a lockdown drill, and the police came into each classroom. They told our students to fight back and to listen to the teacher’s instructions. I’m not a freakin’ ninja. I’m an English teacher. This is insane.
Has anyone implemented a model where teachers observe other classrooms and coach each other?
What is the legal ratio of adults:students in an ECSE inclusion setting? In a reverse mainstream setting? Are Title I PreK classrooms required to have a para and teacher? What is the ratio for that? What is the legal ratio of adults:students in a mixed 4 y/o PreK setting? (#___ SPED+ #___regular=1 teacher and ____paras) Specifically in Louisiana, but curious about other states, as well!
Okay, so what do I really need for a classroom. Almost graduate on a budget, here! What are some really amazing supplies or must-haves you have in your classroom?
Do you have a place where you're able to lock up your stuff in your classroom? I don't and I'm not sure if I should make a big deal about it.
What is your max class size for the year? Is that number based on a virtual or in person classroom?
The worst thing you ever said by accident in front of a classroom full of students that was not a curse. GO!
ISO Manager salary range for Corporate Functions (marketing) at Big 4s. Thanks if you have any insights!
First time GMAT, scored a 650. Practice tests were coming in around 680, but bombed quant (41Q, 38V, 8 IR). I am confident that I can score better my next time around, but out of curiosity, what rank of school could I possibly get into with this score? 2 years work experience B4 consulting, very solid undergrad involvement/GPA. Trying to decide if it’s worth applying to my target schools this year or if I delay for another year in order to study more.

hey all, i’m 3 years into my career. some decent work produced, some awards (mostly student). after getting laid off last fall and many many applications and emails sent, I’ve decided to spend time and money on a creative PR stunt to get my dream agencies’ attention. I’ve decided I don’t want to settle any longer, and I’m ready to make the jump to the elite. so people that have made it to their dream agencies: when did it happen for you, what made it happen, and was it everything you hoped for?
Tips for how you’re accumulating wealth with absolutely no financial inheritance/intelligence from parents? I want to retire early but am late in the investments game. Am i missing any smart moves here?

Getting married next month and we’d like to have a joint checking account to cover shared expenses, however I don’t want to miss out on all the points I can rack up by consistently using my delta platinum card (spending thresholds = point bonuses, etc). Also my credit card bill will likely be a mix of shared and personal expenses, so how do couples go about this? Open to any advice. Thanks!
