As an older ORM applicant (29 yo) with a GRE score of 322, I needed all the help I could get to apply to my dream school HBS.
I attended several free consultation sessions with couple high ranked consultants on P&Q. They basically just shut me down saying it’s impossible as I didn’t found a unicorn start up, and pushed me to apply to other safety schools instead.
For the strangest reason I landed on P7 of Google search page and stumbled upon a consultant called Monica Okrah who was ex MBAmission and an HBS alum herself. Nor sure why she hasn’t been mentioned more, but in our initial call she saw the potential in my application and encouraged me to apply. Monica was extremely supportive, and helped me find my unique compelling story from ordinary details. She was very responsible and helped me perfect every part of the app, from recommendation letter strategy to reviewing all the answers in the app form. We ended up having over 20 60-min sessions (covered by the fixed package cost).
Fast forward I received an invite for HBS R2 interview!! Now waiting for final results. Wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for Monica given HBS has been a bloodbath. Highly recommend her especially if you don’t have a clear idea of your story.
What are peoples thoughts on MBA mission?
Honestly, I would just recommend ApplicantLab. You know your story best, but it helps to figure out what individual schools are looking for and how to craft your story for each one. I used the general lab plus resume review, numerous essay reviews, and an interview prep for like $1500 total and got into H/S and a couple other M7. Anecdotal, but I seriously think the admissions consultants are a waste of time just preying on people's insecurities and uncertainty.
Worked with Menlo super early (started late 2020) and did a ton of prep work on a weekly basis with my main coach. Applied to 10, interviewed offers at 9, offers at 6 (including one H/S/W), waitlisted at one H/S/W, one interview offer came after I accepted an offer so turned down the interview.
Overall, I think most people on this bowl can probably navigate the process fine without a consultant by just using firm resources/existing network, etc., but I am a first gen and from low income pool, firm is not known to send ppl to top schools, and I did not know anyone with a top MBA, so the services from Menlo were really helpful.
Coach
I used Fortuna, on an hourly package ($4k total) and would recommend.
Use Ellin Lollis , she is least expensive, most effective for my case.
Use applicant lab. Best bang for you buck
Hi! Do you have a referral link for applicantlab that you can share?
