Personal fin ques- Trying to finalize a fee only fin planner thru XYplanning network. For these goals, the one we shortlisted is charging a one time fee of $2K. Is that on the high side? Any advice?

A few different schools of thoughts here about paying for these or having a wealth manager. A few questions for us to better help you:

Age, NW, Salary, current retirement, kids?

What's your NW?

2,000 will buy you peace of mind, allow you to not spend time on research, and will help you blame someone of things didn't turn put as expected.

What services are available for you for free within your firm? For example at EY we have free CFPs that can help us with all sorts of financial plans. Emphasis on THEY ARE CFP's.

If you dont have over maybe 1MM in investable assets (not home, not 401k) that you are trying to create a strategy that someone can manage for you, a major life changing event (death, divorce, money windfall, massive debt) an extensive google search will yield the same result for your financial plan.

I would read a few books on personal finance (if not done so yet) to complement my personal finance knowledge, follow the conventional rules (there is a reddit flowchart somewhere) it would yield 95% of the same result. But this would take time, and you should do it regardless.

Do you have $2,000 to spare?

One thing I can say: one time fee MUCH better than a percentage.

Look for if the person is a fiduciary

I’m buying a home! It’s a little tight but here is my monthly cost breakdown ($9k/mo take home):

$3k mortgage
$500 for 15 months for new floors
$210 for 12 months for roof repairs
$300 groceries ($75/week)
$100 eating out
$150 estimated utilities
= $4260

Leftover = $4740

Investment Allocation:
$2k in HYSA
$2.2k in VTI
$540 leftover just in case

Is this a good budget to stick to? Also I may be able to subtract $800-$900 because I’m planning on renting out a room!

Always been a fan of FIRE and reading about it has definitely helped my finances but I can’t help but wonder if the movement is more about lifestyle change than early retirement.

After you achieve FI,you basically have to maintain the lifestyle that got you there.
