Hi all, recently a recruiter from Amazon reached out for an SDE 2(2+ years of exp. required) role and I'm a recent CS grad. I gave the OA (which was extremely difficult w/ 99% cut-off) and other tasks related to the OA. A few hours back, I got a call from the recruiter that I had cleared the assessment and tasks and said that they are looking for 2+ years of exp. No, in US it’s called “you’ll still be working 3 days...can you dial in from PTO?”
People are respectful of your PTO if you set the appropriate boundaries. If my team asked me to take a call on PTO, my answer is no.
That said, I do everything I can in advance to make sure there is zero reason for anyone to reach out to me on PTO, such as:
-for any PTO that is more than a day, planning it months in advance
-making the project aware of my planned PTO in the very first staffing call, before I am even locked into the project
-putting my PTO on the team's calendar day 1 of the project
-setting expectations in the weeks prior to the PTO that I will not be available
-Laying out a clear plan for coveragr while I am out
Healthcare system so advanced that you can foresee when you would be sick!!
