I’ve been jumping around every 2 years or so and it hasn’t really been an issue to get interviews/offers. Done it twice now
Yes, I got a signing bonus for every job I’ve switched to. Most recently it was a lateral, the one before was a promotion
Similar to A1 I jump every 2-3 years, but I would say 1 year minimum unless you have a really good story. About 8 months after joining Accenture I wanted to reduce my travel so started looking. In my first interview, it took <10 mins for them to ask how long I’ve been at ACN, I told them and the conversation slowly died off after that cause I didn’t have a compelling reason which most people don’t after a few months. I suppose lucky for me that travel issue soon became a thing of the past.........................
Does family relocation count as a good story? Because I'm going to be looking 6 months in (did not expect this when I took the job)
I’ve done about two+ years for the past two jobs. But plan on staying in my current role at least three years to build tenure/show progression - I also like the job so 😬
Coach
I work in industry these days and definitely hop around. It causes quite a stir. Some places aren’t interested in me for that reason. I do have one job that lasted, so that helps:
2.5 years
1 year
2 years
6 years
3 years
2 years
1 year
4 months so far (I’m ready to move)
Also in the C suite of a hospital, so it may matter more.
I jump every 2-3 years . Most of it has been due to personal reasons and relocation needs. Doing this for 15 years and never been asked about these hops
Wrong. It’s still a resume. Just keep it under 2 pages.

And you hop around too much
A recruiter friend told me that they sometimes evaluate you as a flight risk if you do something like that. remember, they expel a lot of time and energy into training you and onboarding you so they want someone who's going to stick around.
I excuse one short stop or so but if they happen often it’s a red flag to me - because may mean the candidate won’t tough it out and/or can’t be counted on or that they have what seems like a fine background but keep flunking out. Definitely pass over and grill people more if they jump around a lot.
Same here, I have also jumped around every 2-3 years in the last 7 years (in my 4th now) and no questions have come up related to that in recruiter screenings or interviews. My reason to jump was mostly better opportunity & pay, and I think most consultancies can understand that.
Is every year and X months too often? Right now I’m at:
1y 5m
1y 2m
1y 3m
And currently I’m 1y7m in my current role. Recruiters only sometimes ask and when they do they just say ok cool, so it doesn’t seem like they care? To add, I’m not really leaving all the time for money and title. It’s because I feel like i havent found the job I liked yet..
And another apology for the faux pas lol
