Indian Passport is expiring on 7/19. VISA is expiring on 4/19. What is recommended. A passport renewal first and then file the extension or file the extension first and then passport renewal?

I’m in the same boat. Passport renewal is much faster and can be done one year before the date of expiry I believe.

Get the passport renewed first - your visa expiring would mean that you may not have a valid driver's license and without a valid passport, you'll not have identification in the country. Also, I think you can renew your passport only when it's 6 months from expiry. I'm not sure - just check that please. I got my psssport renewed in 1 month

Get your passport renewed first then go for visa. If you have your new visa in New passport, you won't have to keep carrying or showing both passports everytime

So if I renew the passport first, old passport visa will still be valid to travel outside US and then entering back before the visa expire?

Point is if I get the passport renewal first. Will I be able to travel outside us on old visa before I got the new extension or I have to go for stamping for the new passport again?

You can use the visa on the old passport as long as visa is valid.

Passport renewal. It takes 7-10 days for a passport to renew in NYC, not sure about other embassy.

For those, who are immigrants, what made you stay in New York? Would be especially interested to hear from those who didn’t come for economical reasons. I am told the excitement about the city wears off 😅 I am European, just came 2 years ago and am still loving it, but also start to wonder if staying in a job I don’t like it’s all worth it (I am on L1 visa, so no way to find a new job). Life in Europe isn’t too bad either.

I accepted an offer from another firm and gave notice to my direct partner on Friday. He asked me to wait a few days as a courtesy before giving notice to the firm’s managing partner. The partner I work for knows several of the attorneys at the firm where I got the offer. He is now coming back to me and saying my current firm will match the salary, offer better hours, better title, etc. Needless to say, I’m torn. How bad is it to walk back on an accepted offer? We are in a smaller legal market.

Alright so there’s a thing called reclaim my status. If you had a reason why you lost status in the last year or two like COVID, baby, new job, etc. You need to submit some basic documentation and they give you that status for 3 months with a DRASTICALLY lower threshold to make the status permanent and even higher tiers are much easier to obtain during those 3 months. Google “reclaim my status Delta”

My husband got hurt and can’t work for 6 months. He’s a 1099 contractor so has no benefits or anything to supplement income. I never even thought about this but is there insurance you can buy in the future in case something like this happens? Like disability for 1099 workers?
