Rather than sitting back and letting mistakes like these happen, as a LEADER you should be opening communication channels and talking to this person and equipping them with the feedback and improvements to help them help you. Develop and nurture success in others. Be a leader not a horrible boss.
EY3, take it easy bruh! EY1 might be one the verge on the verge of becoming the partner on your project. 😉
EY1, I would say never be scared of a bully! Always stand up when you see one. As they say - "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."
No need to identify him by the country! You *******!
Jeez, relax people. Indian, Mexican, Polish, who gives a shit
It's really offensive to call someone Indian? Is it offensive to call me white? What about calling a man a man or a woman a woman. Hide from the truth and if you don't....YOU ARE A RACIST!!
I smell racism ! You could have said a "diverse" staff , "foreign" staff , staff of another nationality
Hey guys, thanks for bringing that up. Mentioning the nationality was completely unnecessary and I understand why it offends people. My apologies and thank you guys for allowing me to become a better person.
P8, why don't you take a breath and read the comments. OP recognized he didn't need to include nationality and apologized.
Nationality was relevant to the story, I don't think that's racism.
I didn't think ACN did H1B
EY3 - bravo with that attitude ! God forbid I ever work with you ( actually scared) . It's not a bad word , it's not a scary word . Just like "white" wasn't relevant according to you in that sentence . We are just saying that "Indian " wasn't relevant in this sentence . A lot of foreign nationals work on h1b , not just Indians.
However , no matter what the nationality and visa status is , that is irresponsible behavior and deems action. Period . My judgement would have been the same for someone with no visa too! Rule 1: Separate the people from the problem!
Person of color here and in this particular case, I didn't see anything wrong with mentioning nationality... What is the difference between just adding detail to a story and being discriminative/racist w/ the inclusion of race?
Embracing diversity is key. But that can't materialize in calling people "diverse" or "diversity candidate" in recruiting.
^ Amen
I get tan in the summer and whiten up in winter, is it racist to call me a person of color during the summer months?
The post has turned into Racist vs Non Racist. OP : you can coach him to be responsible and prompt and productive. If you don't like him roll him off to another project.perhaps the other person will groom him better. No need to fill this up with bitterness.
P5 hits the nail on the head ! Nothing racist with calling someone an Indian , not racist at all . I am sure everyone is proud of their nationality. However , the way the sentence was framed came off as a little biased . At the end of the day it's all perspective .
Hey EY3 - I have a famous quote for you. "Suck it"
Really BCG, we are always taught about embracing diversity ! And that it's a good thing . Good to know a diff perspective though, will keep in mind .
