Is it frowned upon by tech companies to ask about sign on bonus? I’m not in tech but the recruiter seemed really pissed off and offended that I asked about sign on bonus, and told me I should not bring it up during the recruiter call. Words, “I’m sure you are a nice person, but it doesn’t look good if you ask about sign on bonus during the recruiter call” I didn’t know there was an underlying rule like that, I really didn’t know its offending if I ask about sign on bonus.

I have chronic health issues and I’m severely depressed. I can’t even get myself to work anymore. If I don’t quit, I’m in serious danger of being fired. I’m a lawyer based in Europe. I’m lateraling to a firm in a new jurisdiction on Monday and negotiated a decent pay increase a few months ago (new jurisdiction has significantly higher income taxes so negotiated based on a comparable net pay).
