I am from a tier 1 college and yet able to land only a couple of interviews and they keep me on stand by(2 companies so far). They are prefering folks with experience even for APM positions. I’ve been reading more and more in other financial forums about people refinancing into interest-only mortgages as a means of maximizing cash available for investment. Help me understand the argument for doing this? I’m starting to see it could make a lot of sense for people who 1) have a ton of equity and aren’t worried about the housing market flinching, 2) probably won’t keep their house forever, and 3) already have a high net worth. My yearly income (post standard deduction+ 1.5 lacs 80c investment) is 650,000. (April 21- march 22).

I will also receive 2,00,000 joining bonus this month end.

Total income: 6.5 lacs + 2 lacs

Question:
1. Will 10% taxes(as per old regime slab) be deducted on 6.5 lacs and flat 30% be deducted on joining bonus?
Or
Only 10% Tax will be deducted on 8.5 lacs(6.5 + 2 lacs jb)?

2. Need suggestion to save tax on the above numbers.

Have a coworker who volunteers for work but never ends up doing it. At what point does it make sense to go to the partner to address this? I’m considering a lateral offer in lit between a V10 and V50. The V10 has the brand value, but I got the impression that I would just be another cog in the machine there. The V50 is similarly well regarded in my specific practice area as the V10, and I do think if I want to try to make partner I should go to the V50. Does brand value particularly matter? I’m coming from a V50, and only considering government or staying at the firm.

When is it time to leave?

10th year in a relatively specialized field and partnership prospects are fantastic. Problem is, I’m completely fried. I find the work boring. I’m constantly asked to do marketing work for which I receive no billable credit. Because of this, I feel like I’m working at least12 hours a day to bill 7. I work with folks in different time zones, so I’m either up till 3 or up at 3. I sometimes nap while my family has dinner so that I can stay up late working. Time to go?
