Inspired by a post the other day: what is the typical age of a senior manager (one step below director) in industry?

It will depend on the company and industry. But just to give you a flavor, my group has a few Senior Managers (Corp Strategy) and we are all early 30s. Couple yrs pre MBA experience, MBA and a couple years Strategy consulting from MBB / boutiques then exit.

like

Why should it matter? You are not in school that people need to reach certain milestones by certain age. If a person who is 50 years old and who is equally equipped as a person 22 year old, both could be senior mgr or director. What are your trying to measure?

Thank you @Manager1

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Would love any thoughts. I’m almost 6yrs in Accenture as a Management Consulting manager, worked in the telecom industry for the last few years and have mainly focused on CX/business process improvement. I’ve found lately that when I look at those managers above me/the execs we report to, I don’t necessarily envision myself wanting their jobs. I can’t tell if it’s the hours, the client bootlicking we end up doing, or just the need to try something new - but I’m not loving the idea of staying.
