The firm has been so kind as to give us enough work to never worry about hitting hours. That is all the Covid class has gotten lol.

Well my firm most offices will be 150k starting salary in January so the salt is extra salty here

I was super disheartened by the fact that no one in my practice group even reached out to me during my deferment period (I was supposed to start in fall 2020 but got pushed to January 2021). Left me feeling salty from the very beginning

Same. Just left me hanging. At least I got to golf a lot.

Woah. You literally just described almost the exact thing that happened at my firm—down to the business group thing and everything. My firm recently jumpstarted a formal mentorship program, which seems to be working well, at least for me. Other than that, there has not been anything specific offered to help the first years (I guess now we might be rising second years?)

I heard about some big law first years getting a virtual wine and paint night. Would it be too little too late to do something like that for my firm's covid class, or would a virtual social activity/ gift basket actually do some good? I'm a midlevel but I don't want a whole class of associates to peace out bc the firm treated them like extra crap before they even started billing...

I have a pyramid event tomorrow but I feel sick and I have a severe cold. Tickets have been purchased already, I am 100% certain it’s not covid because I took a test already. However, I don’t want to get anyone sick with cold. How do I handle this situation? Is it possible to let them know I can’t attend because of my cold even if the tickets have been purchased? I feel bad.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not terribly thrilled with the new Halo Top ad. I’m all for body acceptance but part of the reason COVID hit the U.S. so hard is because of co-morbidities like obesity. There has to be a line btw “real” bodies and not celebrating a state that causes so many medical issues - Ie overweight without the medical definition of very obese. Do you think brands have gone too far in the other direction?

I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist, but am I the only person who thinks the mass publication of the Omicron variant by the media was due to traditionally low viewership during the holidays? It seems like the Media wants to dictate COVID’s trajectory & demise to align with their business strategy. As overall viewership falls in a post-Trump era and waning COVID numbers, big media has to be a little nervous about audience retention.

Any stories of people getting admitted to the NY bar despite getting fired from their first legal job? For context I was fired from my first big law job during Covid-April last year, due to performance issues and failure to meet billables. They’ve remained somewhat neutral on my employment affidavit by leaving the box regarding satisfactory performance blank and indicating it’s firm policy to only verify dates of employment. Am rather nervous! Thoughts? Has anyone gone through this? How?

So I had a some friends who went to Cabo, and when they returned they all(7) took the covid test and came back positive. 5 days later, no one was showing any symptoms so they all went to another clinic and they took the test and they all tested negative. Don’t get me wrong, I wear a mask and take precautions, but when you hear stories like this, you wonder how much of these reported numbers are manipulated or incorrect.

Today our board votes whether or not to send us back on March 1st. We have been virtual all year. Any advice on how to handle an ECD in charge of your salary who says the only way to get a promotion or even a COL raise of any kind is through winning an award?
