What is skadden corporate law like for women? Is it true that it has a boys locker room culture? Are associates expected to attend all the social events?
Looking to leave big4 and return to the practice of law, preferably in house counsel somewhere. In my search, I notice some of the big4 firms (e.g, PWC) are actually hiring in house legal counsel. Curious to know details about these positions and departments if anyone has insight. Good/bad culture, pay, how you’re evaluated, etc.?
Just wanted to say, I visited Atlanta last weekend with some friends and the black excellence was such an unexpected and welcoming culture shock. From the min I landed I was not a minority in literally any location we went to. It made me realize that there’s a deferent relaxing feeling when you truly blend in.

Hi all, Atlassian is hiring across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, Strategy & Biz Ops and other roles. The company has a great culture and values employee well-being a lot. Almost all roles are remote, even if there is a location attached to them. The internal policy is team anywhere aka remote-first within a country/region. Check out the career page below for more details. Happy to put in a referral for you if there is a fit.

I really want to work in an office again. I like putting stuff on the walls, talking with people, the serendipity of things. I think it benefits the work. Who else is looking forward?

I accepted an offer from another firm and gave notice to my direct partner on Friday. He asked me to wait a few days as a courtesy before giving notice to the firm’s managing partner. The partner I work for knows several of the attorneys at the firm where I got the offer. He is now coming back to me and saying my current firm will match the salary, offer better hours, better title, etc. Needless to say, I’m torn. How bad is it to walk back on an accepted offer? We are in a smaller legal market.
Any US employees have a house in an EU country where you spend a portion of your time? Looking to buy a vacation home in Spain and spend bench time/weekends there. How do you make it work?

Had a phone screen with BCG recruiter today. As a current Big 4 manager with a specific industry and function focus for ~7 years, when asked if I prefer Generalist or Expert track, I said I’m ok with either, because I love selling (Generalist) but I’m also very interested in continuing my existing focus (Expert). She said she can mark me down for both. What are everyone’s thoughts on not necessarily having a firm one-or-the-other answer?
What made you snicker, chuckle, chortle, giggle or laugh today? Quiet to maniacal, have at it. To get the obvious off the list... paycheck, hours, unlimited time off, budgets, looming deadlines, and pets on zoom/teams meetings.
Slight vent: I had saved up a bunch of PTO to travel a ton this year (long-term project) which obviously got kicked to the dust and I have a bunch expiring this year because of that. Was looking forward to next year (including a family trip that’s been on the calendar for 2 years), but 3 people just left the team, only 1 will be replaced, and 3 more announced parental leave in spring. I have go lives through February and feel like I’m sprinting a marathon and will never get a break now.
Currently on bench for a week and absolutely loving it! Not doing any BD work whatsoever! How do I avoid people from pulling me into engagements or proposal documentations? 😅
Working with a few firms (V25-50) on a potential lateral to income partner. Any thoughts on salary range? Am I safe to assume it is (perhaps significantly) higher than a 2013 associate since I am quite a bit older? It’s hard to gauge a target range to negotiate.
How much more should someone ask for if a competing firm has less pto (7 days), less 401k match...401k doesnt kick in until 1st yr is over. Initially asked for 140k.
