I started at a US-based company about 3 weeks ago in a permanently remote role based out of Canada. Since it is a remote job, I planned to visit my family in December who stay in another country and continue working from there as per my current time zone for a couple of weeks. My manager shot down this plan saying I’m too new to make this work and I should have told this before I joined, he’d have delayed my joining. Am I being unreasonable in my request? Curious to know people’s planning systems. I’m a paper planner at heart, but in this practice, there’s so many tasks and sub tasks for each client matter and each task may be in various points of completion (to do, waiting on, in process, etc.). I’ve toyed with excel sheets, word docs, paper planning, Trello, Notion, etc. and nothing seems to ‘stick.’ Thank you!

Does anyone feel like 80% of your job is making changes so higher ups can justify their salaries by “marking their territory” on creative?

As a copywriter I often feel guilty because my designers seem to work so many more hours than I do. I don’t know how much is that I’m fast, or design is just more time consuming. Other writers feel this way? Should I just accept it, or is there something more I should be doing?
