I’m job hunting with 15 YOE and do not hear much from submitting to online portals. Where I’m gaining traction is actually talking to people at firms that I’m interested in. I’m connecting with folks in my network and that’s how I’m getting some offers. Just sending in a resume that’s 1 among 100s ain’t gonna cut it.

I've only been at IBM for 2.5 years and already know people in pretty much every firm who've left IBM or I've met. It feels like it's a pretty small consulting world. I'm sure you know some people, you might not have seen their LinkedIn and what they're doing lately.

I apply to more junior roles at other consulting companies and it doesn’t make a difference. I’m just looking for something interesting to do and not focused on higher pay, etc.

I am in the market for a new role as well and have found that it is critical to highlight those credentials that are a strong match for the job you’re applying to. Don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach by using the same CV for every application. As seasoned consultants wear a lot of hats and have a wide range of skill sets, tailoring your CV can help you to stand out among candidates. Your profile/summary and core competencies/skills section (if you have them) need to get the recruiter’s attention - before you dive into actual job history. I removed 2 early career jobs from my chronology as they just weren’t relevant. I also do not include graduation date. Unfortunately, ageism exists and you’ll want to craft your CV to ensure they’ll reach out to you for that first contact.

Best of luck on your search.

Sounds like a resume issue. Hire a resume writer, sounds like you can afford one anyway. Best of luck! 🤗

I was doing the hiring interview for an experienced hire last week, in our technology consulting practice. I discussed the career level, specialty group, type of work, etc. The candidate then said that they would only accept the offer if it allowed them to work from home, indefinitely. Have others encountered such a request? BTW, no offer was extended. I couldn’t commit to “indefinite WFH”, when clients often require us on-site and with out-of-town travel.

I’m in a difficult situation. A man who was fired for harassing women at my last agency is currently employed at an agency I’m interviewing at. This job would be a promotion for me and it’s a good company. But I’m really hesitant to work where this man is. The thought of being at parties or in meetings with him is unbearable. I keep asking myself if a promotion is worth it? Or should I go with self preservation and say no thanks?

My ladies, have you got some thoughts for me?

However, the software we use is outdated and departmental politics make it difficult to test/install new products and services.
