Interested in leaving the firm at a critical time in my current project for personal reasons; is this going too far in terms of burning bridges? I'm the lead on the project.

Think about you first. Do what makes you healthy The firm will be fine

Irrespective of the fact that you maybe leaving at a critical time, I for one, don’t think it’s maybe the best idea to leave a job unless you have one lined up. Mostly because even if you are pretty much done with your current job, it will help you keep busy and maybe help you learn a thing or two. However, if it’s mentally harming you (or some other major personal reason), I’d say quit but explain the reason the leadership and the client and I’m sure most reasonable people will understand. If they don’t understand then they probably aren’t worth knowing in the first place

Want to say the personal reasons? That might change things

Personal reasons: just need out for mental health after a decade of consulting. This isn't an emotional decision but one that's years in the making. I will likely pursue career change

I don’t think you’d be burning bridges. Personal reasons is personal reasons. You don’t owe them a detailed explanation although you could make something up if they press hard. Say you wish the timing could be better, help them with the transition, and be done with it. If you’re mentally over consulting, you should get out and do what makes you happy.

I'm the lead and have several direct reports. I don't have a job lined up.

Why not talk to the person you report to? You have nothing to lose. And worse case you can take a break and they can find someone else

Does Deloitte offer LOA where you can use that time to recharge and look for another job? Of course don’t tell them you’re looking to leave. Just say personal reasons and you need a break. Might buy you time to figure out what you want to do and I think technically you would still be employed with no gap in employment. Idk though. But don’t carry on for the company’s sake. Corporations are ruthless and would cut you at the drop of a dime.

Take a vacation & during that time, apply for jobs. At one point in my career, i was w a company that was soul sucking so I saved up for a few months and got a contracting role that allowed me to work from home and at my own leisure, while I went through the process of finding the next job. Totally worth it to leave, even though I didn’t have insurance and didn’t have something lined up...the mental release of stress allowed me to shine through and ace the interviews that got me a job that was an 80% increase in pay, w a better company.

My manager doesn’t seem to have any boundaries - always saying yes to additional unnecessary work from the client and always working through weekends/nights/PTO/holidays. They are supportive of encouraging everyone else to have a WLB but since they don’t lead by example it ends up making me feel like I’m doing something wrong or crossing a line whenever I set a boundary with them or push back on a request that doesn’t align with our goals or priorities

Back again with a question for the McKinsey folks! 1. Is it true that if you are internal (specifically PD) you are not eligible for a performance bonus? Just base and the 401K profit sharing? 2. I know McKinsey offers a percentage of your salary into a retirement fund. The recruiter painted it as a range (from 7-12%), but other fish in the main consulting bowl said it’s either 7 OR 12% (no in between) based off of if you’re client facing or internal - which is true? For UX/UI designers. When a client is looking to redo their website what is your process like? Lately I’ve been working on a lot of UX web projects but haven’t been getting the full project brief. When we get a client asking for a redesign we’ll have a kick off call to help us understand the client objectives and goals. From there I’m usually the one to audit their current site and see what’s working and what can be better optimized. we also think through the site navigation. But is this enough?

I rolled off a project 3 months ago. They keep reaching out and asking me to help onboard new teammates to give them historical knowledge (it’s a long-term project). Do I have to keep doing this? Or does it get to a point where I can say I don’t have the time and there must be someone more recent who can help?

I got hired as a freelancer on a project. 2 days in and we’re off to a slow start getting access to what I need. It’s paid hourly. I blocked out time to work a full day knowing I’d dive right in but that’s not how it turned out. My question is do I bill the full day even though I only put in a few hours of kick off calls and contacting folks to get access to the things I need? It’s not my fault they were disorganized. What would you do?
