I challenge the notion in media analytics there is a preferred skill set, degree or path. it’s different from media or account. I’ve hired people from other agencies, other industries, straight out of school, academics, consultants, ex vendors, etc.
Look for inquisitiveness, curiosity, quantitative aptitude, etc. technical skills can be a plus. especially on slightly larger teams, you look for role players.
more concretely - quant ability, good with excel. tableau is a big plus. same with SQL. starting to see python or R. working knowledge of the media at hand - especially at the manager level. at the analyst level, I could care less.
what is your. background ?
I’ve worked at a digital marketing agency that pivoted into market research type work - still within the digital sphere but more consulting-esque. I sort of became an analyst based on the fact that there was no-one/natural inquisitiveness.
I’ve done a course in tableau and SQL but don’t have work experience in it
