I agree with the comment of letting children be children until they reach puberty. Some reach it earlier then others. Then the parents should teach the physical ,moral and ethical parts of sex and gender. The teachers at school help teach the anatomical and physical aspects of biology and sexual reproduction. Social science teachers help with the social aspects of sex and gender. We as teachers should always focus on teaching children how to think, not what to think. If we start preaching our own doctrine then we can be the cause of problems not the solution.
Any sex talk in elementary school is a definite NO
I only see such discussions in the classroom leading to more confusion, especially in students who are quite young.
I totally agree… I think it’s incredibly inappropriate to discuss a gender, sex or anything of the sorts to elementary students… Especially when they haven’t even reached puberty yet. It opens up Pandora’s box… Reading, writing, math, science, social studies that should be the focus… And how to get along with each other. I don’t know how sexual orientation, gender and all of this fits in with academics… 🙄🤷🏻♀️
I don't ask neutral questions (students don't really learn much from those) but I always make sure to present and welcome all sides equally (except when discussing human rights--there's only one side when it comes to bigotry).
Wow, great read. Thank you for sharing. Very very interesting.
